I don’t get why people are opposed to more options. If Apple can pull off a sturdy 15’’ version of the iPad Pro and having a 11’’, 13’’ and a 15’’ then why not. If you prefer smaller, stay with the smaller. But some will like a 15’’ version.

The iPad pro 12.9 was a real game changer for a lot of illustrators and it's used by companies like Marvel, Pixar and loads of freelancers. Adobe is starting to integrate desktop and iPad apps. Photoshop recently started supporting Apple sidecar. I think a larger iPad could start competing with the standard in the creative industry: Wacom Cintiq. The larger is the more usable by pros (Cintiq goes up to 32") but also the smaller the audience is. The iPad is better than Cintiq in terms of responsiveness and how close the pen is to the actual screen.

12.9” is not flimsy. In fact, it is very durable. My 3rd gen went through a lot of punishment this last year and still looks brand new.

As for 15” - I would love one for desktop use.
You must be EXTREMELY gentle (or have an incredibly different definition of durable and punishment than I do).
I have had every single generation of iPad w/ zero issues until the 2018 12.9”. It bent the 1st time in my messenger bag; I don’t remember anything untoward happening that day.
Then, I bought an $80 tough Zugu case; about 4 months later & I have a mysterious warping around the new smart connector.
My iPad has absolutely never seen any punishment.
Here’s a pic.

I have the 12.9 and carry it to work daily. Perfect condition still. You must have leaned on it or something.

Not really.

Your photo says otherwise. Perhaps you’re unaware of some nasty hit it sustained. It happens.
Perhaps.... but highly unlikely.
My theory is that it was bent slightly in one direction, then slightly in the other- resulting in that slight “bubble”.
At any rate- definitely not durable or able to handle punishment.

edit: no damage to case either... nasty hit not possible. they’re simply very fragile & bend easily.

Strange, I also take it with me every day without extra protection in a compartment in my backpack since day one. No damage at all, I also didn't hear of your issue before. It sucks but something out of the ordinary must have happened.

I feel like maybe such a device would ultimately be better off not being an iPad, but maybe a touch-based (pen centric?) Mac device? At that size touch targets being too small is lessened, and it could even run a touch-optimised version of full MacOS on ARM or something. iPad OS is designed in such a way to be better for basic consumption and office productivity, on a reasonably small device held in the hand. This could be a separate class of device that's made more to be a desk-based solution (built in kickstand like the surface Pro?).

And this whole thread isn't just baseless speculation? 😅 There's been zero leaks or rumours of this happening so you could say we'll cross the bridge of a bigger iPP when Phil Schiller's on stage talking about it!
Then we talk are about the same thing but with different names. A desktop "iPad" would benefit of a kickstand that also allowed for use a low angle work settings. I do not like to mix Mac and iPad nomenclature hence I use the word iPad due to iPadOS, processor and pencil support. Yes I am talking about iPad/iMac combination.

the 62 pages would say different it’s not structurally as strong like previous gens

62 pages are common for issues here, every product ever has one of these "gates" with 50+ pages. Most of them turn out to be non-issues on a global scale. Not saying that people who have issues don't have issues, but the scope is usually overblown, tbh.

I am sure it is when you have a perfect device you ain’t gonna post on a forum saying that.

The bending issue will be resolved with next-gen iPad Pro for sure. Just like Apple 'fixed' the MBP Keyboard.

So I assume new structural design that is more robust. We don't need to turn this thread into the bend-gate thread.

But I too think that a 15'' version could compete even more so with Cintiq and Surface Studio. For many artists and designers a 15'' version would be a dream machine.

Pretty much this. Much bigger than the 12.9 would really start limiting it as a hand held tablet. A big canvass for digital artists' use might be appealing, but beyond that, it would be a poor choice over an existing tablet size option or a full sized traditional notebook.

I could see the 12.9" growing vertically slightly to match the taller (or wider in landscape) aspect ratio introduced with the 11", but that would probably end up being closer to 13.3" than 14".
The reason why I’ve stayed away from the 12.9 is pretty much for this reason. For me it’s too big to use comfortably unless it’s on a table with the keyboard connected. Even my 11 inch MBA is easier to use. I like my 10.5 inch pro. When I upgrade I will probably get the 11 inch model but I can’t see myself going any bigger. I can’t even take my iPad Pro outside of the house because it’s too big and unwieldy. That’s why I have my iPad mini.

I don’t have a issue using the gen 1 12.9 so the gen 4 will be even better no doubt

I think it's a different thing when they're delivered slightly bent due to a production fault than bending afterwards by use.

I’d hate to see the cost though. That alone probably is a dealbreaker considering how limited an iPad is.

Of course it'd be more professional focussed like a Mac Pro. A well built larger machine with a big spec jump would be worth $2000-$2500 for me. But as some people mention it might not be an iPad anymore but a desktop drawing tablet, a different branch.

Well...
Don’t get me wrong- I absolutely LOVE my big iPad, but I definitely wouldn’t size up again, unless they switch to stainless steel, some super strong alloy, or lay out clearly what is their rigidity plan for it.
I’m kinda hoping the 2020 refresh will at least have some new type of frame support.

I would love a bigger iPad, but it would stop being a mobile device at that point. Which is fine, I would love a 16" version (I think this would be a really good size for a desktop iPad). Or, you know, go nuts - 24".

I don't think Apple will give us a bigger one, though. Not for a while, at least. Which may be good, actually, because then I'd have to get both an 11" and a 16" one, because I need an iPad for reading and sketching in bed :)

I like the 12.9 size for the relatively immersive screen experience, but I'm glad with the gen 3 they trimmed it down rather than making the screen bigger. It's pretty much the absolute max for using as a traditional iPad while still being reasonably wieldy. This is why I think if they make a bigger tablet computer it should be significantly different from the iPad paradigm that we've got now, in both hardware and software terms. Looking forward to the mini LED 12.9 in late 2020, definitely think I'm going to wait for that one now!

I think the 11 pro is about right for my usage now. I got rid of the 12.9 pro and got a MacBook Air instead and certainly is the right balance for me now.

It really depends on how you use it. Luma fusion does an amazing job. And for someone extremely mobile like me, I would rather use an ipad over a mbp for my editing.

My 12.9 is indispensable for what I do, but I realize tablets become more niche as they get bigger. The bigger they are, the more productive they can be, but also the more most people will want to stand them on a surface to use them. And if you‘re not holding it, you might as well use a physical keyboard (and mouse if possible). And if you’re using it that way most of the time, you might as well use a Macbook which is made for the keyboard and mouse, and has full multi-tasking and a sturdy hinge. But for me, I need to use the Pencil on that big screen. So even though I love my 12.9, I’m actually a little puzzled with how popular it seems to be. Personally, for traditional casual tablet use, I don’t want to hold anything bigger than my trusty Mini, but I guess everyone is different.

Then make the iPad Pro out of carbon fibre. It is lighter and super stiff. Easy.

I don’t know, but that’s just a fancy and expensive plastic. When it goes it breaks. It may not dissolve heat as well and have some other side effects but I also just plainly don’t like to looks of it.
