Just havin' a little fun.![]()
I have Onkyo 5.1 DTS/DD systems by optical to our HTPC hackintosh and to our Apple TV. Rock the house, baby. Rock the house.
they are very decent sounding speakers for the price. i am thinking of purchasing a set of Z5500's, apparently they are rather good. i would love to hear how bassy they are as im a big bass person!
i have heard some good things about them. but they are probably our of my price range (how much are they?) the z5500's for $400 is out of my price range! darn uni.
the Z5500's are an incredible speaker system. I have had my set for about 4 years now and they sound as amazing as the day i purchased them. VERY CRISP, DEEP ROOM FILLING BASS.
In fact you would be hard pressed to find a better system for even twice the price...
My Onkyo HTIB was US$270. That included the receiver (6x100w), 6 speakers and all the wiring. I just had to add the optical cable.
wow i had heard they were good but not that good. i wonder how they make it so cheap! im trying to convince my rents to go halves with me on the speakers for chrissy![]()
my x530s are just a little bit underpowered for my liking. i really love the bass, i have been listening to some intense D&B lately and i plan on venturing deeper.I was seriously considering that speaker set too. But I realised that my current Companion 3 was probably more than suitable for my room (check the size of the sub on that 5500!).
maybe the older versions will go cheaper then! is this just a rumour or huntch or something?I'm hoping for a new version of the 5500 to come out.

being a drummer i NEED bass. absolutely need the bass otherwise the song is a flop to me. besides, i would rather be able to have the bass there (and turn it down when i dont need it), then have the bass pumping at max the whole time on an underpowered set.I'm a bit the opposite now. I used love blowing out my eardrums with bass but now I just like to sit back a relax to balanced music, no over powering bass. But if I feel like beating my ears to death, I can head to the TV room with the big speakers and the PS3 connected to all my music.
ahh fair enough. i think 7.1 is a bit over the top for my room, it is about 10mx3m all together - tiled floor.Hope. Just a hope. I know that speaker technology doesn't advance that much at the cheap end, but maybe they'll release like a 7.1 system for me.
You can't get 7.1 out of a Mac. 5.1 is tops.

Bandwith is limited to what you can send with DTS or DD. For a while, the wiki also said DD+ could be sent through (7.1), but that has changed sometime in the last two years. Probably a mistake in the beginning.
The receiver may fake it - I just don't know.
great. i think i will be happy tooYou should be very happy with the z-5500, the sub unit is about 40x40x50 iirc.
i moved downstairs into the "granny flat". its got a bathroom aswell. its good. i have my drumkit in it tooThat's helluva long room btw.
