I assume 2mb/s is more than 2KiB/s and 2B/s is just minute. (That's a question) I get from 2b/s to 100kiB/s. My average on a file connected to 36 peers is about 40KiB/s. However, when I downloaded one particularly popular item dl'ed by over 1000 people, i only averaged about 1KiB/s...that seemed weird.

Anyway, that's just to share my own experience with rates. If my calculations are right, your rate is much better than mine! I use the "official" program and it works nicely otherwise.

Apologies, ive just looked and its kbs. at this rate a television series i'm attempting to download will take two months of 24/7 downloading!! its ridiculously slow. i've never experienced anything over 12kibs/s, and as far as i can recall that only lasted for a few minutes before reverting back to something equalling a third of te speed. most often than not though its always bellow 2kib/s.

like i said the files are good, its just the speed is very very poor. i also use the standard bittorent client

6. it wd ask, save the file , yes or no, write y, hit enter
7. Quit the terminal since we are done with it
8. Open Safari
9. Type: "http://temptka/"
10. Make certain that you receive a message like
==================================
Yep, looks like you're configured and ready to go. . .

I think you can get to the page if you do that, but the torrents are never going to work.

Hey thanks big time for that explanation. i managed to follow your instructions, i'm completely usless at this sort of thing hence why i use a mac and not a pc, simplicity is the key for me

i downloaded a torrent ive tried to downlaod many times with slugish results, and now finally its hit hyperdrive or something. im getting a steady80-85kb/s. ive never had anything above 12-13kb/s before, and that sort of download rate happend once in a blue moon and usually only for a few minutes before dropping to a sluggis 1-2kb/s.

I'm begigning to think its the supronova site that produces really slow torrents.

I'm sorry, but I came here looking for help getting Torrent downloads to work on my iBook and was reading along and I don't get these instructions... I mean, what does this do? I'm not being a smart-aleck or anything, I'm just reading thru and then there are these instructions and they worked for the guy the replied afterwards, but I just wanted to know what they were before I tried them.
Honestly, the Terminal scares me :)
A lot :)

:) it does nothing but specifies the remote host name and address. So, if u r scared , u can just goto (as TBR pointed out) http://24.104.25.130:2938.

and if u make those changes, u can write temptka, instead of the real 24.xx..... ip address.

cheers

Hey a few questions, because I am a freaking idiot in the way of torrents and all this.

1) How do you open the terminal? (how stupid)

2) How do you open those ports that can lead to slow download times?

3) What's the deal with file searching for torrents, and "irc" and all that? It seems like there's no good place to go to to download the torrents. At least there's no big all encompassing one that's still up.

And what happened to torrentz.tk or whatever?

thanks. :)

1) Applications>Utilites>Terminal.

2) Not exactaly sure on that one, you'll have to ask someone else.

3) Some places I've had good luck with are suprnova.org and Torrnetsearch.us

For some reason I can't do that.
I get to the point where I'm in the emac, and press and hold control then i tap x and then c.
But then nothing happens.
I type y and nothing happens, it gives me a warning, and then I try typing yes and it give me the same warning: no such file or directory.

What am I doin wrong?

Do I need to type my short username instead of 'host'?

i hope you are not writing it wrong. its hosts, not host. and its emacs , not emac.
Then after you write to the file, you hold down ctrl and tap 'x' (dont release ctrl)and then tap 'c'. Then it wd ask you whether to save or not.
