It's not a ripoff if you want to pay extra for the black case.

If you don't want to pay extra, you don't have to, but that doesn't make it a ripoff.

The black MacBook looks amazing. I really like how the iSight blends into the black case. That said, I bought the base to save money. But if I was getting a superdrive model, that would be it.

if i had the money i'd go black, but the difference from 1.83 to black is too big to justify for annother burner in the house .16GHz 20GB and a nice paint job.

Well.
The wording of this poll is clearly suggesting that you already see this as ripoff.

I'd say no to this poll, but then again, I'm not giving my money to apple for no reason.

PC Colors

Yeah, a majority of PC laptops use a combination of silver and black on their cases, however that is where the comparison ends. You have to remember the number of stickers that are present on the PC laptop, and also remember the beautiful Apple logo that glows on the case. I have not seen the blac case personally, but I can imagine that the Apple logo looks great against the black backdrop.

Exactly. No one would be complaining if there was no black model and your choices were only the 2 white models as they are now. So if you don't think the black is worth it, just buy the white one and be happy.

Fun or not, this was an annoyingly worded poll. Heads you win, tails I loose.

I was thinking about selling my 12"PB and upgrading to the black MacBook.

The only thing that bites with the MBs is the glossy screen.

User replicable HD, dulecore, and up to 2 GB ram, beats my machine in every way, while not being much larger or heavier.

have you actually seen the screen in person? It's glossy, but not super-glossy or very reflective like some PC screens. It's almost more like 75% glossy, 25% matte IMO. It's really quite beautiful!

Yea, saw my Apple tech friends the first day they got the first one in. I love the recessed keyboard, the weight of it, the mat plastic, and the feel of the keys (though admittedly it would take some getting used to). The only thing that bugged me was the glossy screen.

At some angles it was fin, at others the gloss was irritating. I spend my day on LCDs, work, school, home. I like to type outdoors. I can passably do it with a mat screen, but a glossy screen just is not functional for me. There will be some sort of anti-glare coating at some point. I am willing to get rid of a bit of color depth for mat, or even better, a luster screen.

I am really finicky about the screens. I spent months doing research to buy by girlfriend a new LCD. I made sure that there are no CRTs (for a number of reasons) in the studio I work at.

In short, the dream finish would be “museum glass” like finish.

No, it's not a rip-off. There's nothing fraudulent about a black MB that costs more than a white MB. Anybody who purchases a black MB does so by choice with full knowledge that they're paying more.

If someone bought a black MB, opened the box and found a white MB, then perhaps that's a rip-off.

Enough of these threads. The black costs more, we get it. If you don't want to pony up the cash then get the white.

In my opinion, the white looks twelve times better anyway.

No one seems to complain when a car manufacturer charges more for a colour that is not considered standard. Do you know what those people do? They either get a colour they can afford, or not buy the ****ing car.

It is a personal preference. I prefer the white, and would probably pay more for it if that was the case. If you think the black is a ripoff, and considering that you are not being forced to buy it, don't purchase it. Obviously the people who got it think it was worth it, seeing as how they are the ones who had to pay for it. Trying to decide if it is a ripoff is really pointless.

Yeah, it's definitely a loaded question.

It's not worth the extra $150, that's fa sho. Spend the extra money on RAM or Hard Drive space, something that will make the laptop more USABLE.

Then again, we are talking about mac users here. Looks > Cost.

and no one pays 10%+ the cost of the car just for a color.

of course, the manufacturer does give a choice of factory colors (usually six to eight different colors). if you want a custom color, the dealer has to paint the car (thus the cost). i doubt it costs Apple any money to use black plastic, let alone $150.

it's funny how serious some people take a "for fun" poll.

When you are manufacturing something, you do not neccesarily have to charge what it cost to make when you are selling it. Hence why companies can charge more for somewhat pointless options. It does not matter if black plastic costs less, or 10x more than white, they will price it according to what they want.

But back to the fun poll...I think the negative answer is more of a false negative... :p I may be wrong though... :)
