I just purchased Black Ops from the MICROSOFT store.. yuck. But good story behind it. I happen to live near the Microsoft Store Mission Viejo CA. I happened to be in the mall the day it opened (I had no idea) and got a $25 gift card that I have never used.
My two sons use Windows to play games on; one has XP and one has Vista. I decided to buy them Windows 7 (family pack, 3 licenses for $149). I had my gift card so $125 for the three. Not bad, I can bootcamp my MBP. Anyway, I found a coupon for $50 off any purchase of $200 or more at the MS store. Black Ops was $59, pushing my total to $210. I ended up paying just $10 for Black Ops.
But let me tell you how screwed up the MS store is. I was there about an hour with my two kids. I was walking around playing with the Windows Phones; see how they are. NONE OF THEM WORKED! The internet wasn't working, and none of the sales reps could get it to work. I couldn't do maps, or email, or web, or anything else. The reps worked for 20 minutes before giving up trying to get the phones to wake up -- they said that this is very common. Who's going to buy a phone like this when nothing is working? Although the reps insisted it would work when you got it home.
The Kenect demonstration needed someone standing there all the time helping people set it up and to solve problems. Most of the time they got it working, but it took a while.
It turns out that there is only ONE checkout register in the entire store! If there is any delay, everyone waits.
As I mentioned I had a gift card from opening day. It wouldn't register in the system. But according to the manage, it's a known problem. It took them over a half hour to check me out! I feel bad for the poor people behind me who had to wait this entire time. For me, it didn't matter, I was waiting for my wife anyway, she was shopping and the kids were playing Raze on the machines.
I walk out of there, frustrated and saddened by the state of the store; it really isn't well thought out. My sons kept complaining about glitches with the machines and how things were just not right. (I don't know, I wasn't playing with them)
In the end we went to the Apple store a few doors down and spent another half hour there playing PvZ and other demos on the iPads. I was lusting over a 27" iMac but I want to wait for the next gen processors next year. I also want an iPad, but can't find a good use for it. But I'll get one eventually.
