Could someone with both Mac's take/have a picture of them side by side. I can not decide on which one I like more. Any other opinions will be greatly appreciated!

THANKS!

if you buy the macbook, you can use the money saved on a bigger display, maybe the 20" ACD if you like.

i have a macbook, and my parents have a MacBook Pro, and personally, i like my MacBook better. I can't tell you what it is, its just something about it which i love. the Pro isn't bad, but i do love my MacBook :)

if you plan to be doing any work which requires a GPU or FW800, go for the pro. If you don't, the MacBooks are fantastic machines. they are much, MUCH better than the iBooks they replaced.

As far as specs go - I am content either way. Right now its all about the looks and the extra 2 inches of screen real estate. I am also worried that the BlackBook will show more ware to the keyboard then the MBP

Having bought a Macbook last summer, I wish I had went with the MBP just for the extra screen space. I now know that my next laptop must have at least a 15" screen. Other than that I enjoy my MB.

Also, doesn't the MB have an issue running a 20" external and the built-in at the same time? Something about kooky resolutions, but I believe it will run a 20" fine when in clamshell mode.

I won't need an external, but thanks for your input. Can't decide ahh

Your location is listed as Orange County, CA. The last time I checked, there are Apple stores and authorized resellers around that would surely have both a MBP and black MB for you to see in person, no?

I guess I'm just a bit different. If I was about to spend $800-1400, I'd like to see the item in person and I'd likely have an opinion as to which aesthetic I would prefer. *shrug*

Oh, I have def. been to the numerous stores in the area but I was just hopeful if someone had some side by side pictures in action

Go to the one in Simi Valley. I will meet you there and I will drool all over your purchase. I would buy something to, but the mac pro didn't get a significant update. Argh why apple why!!!! On a serious note, get the macbook pro for the GPU. You wont be sorry.....

I knew i remembers something like this. Unfortunately it is with a white MB.

looks like the MBP has a better viewing angle. It would be good if for some reason you hover over your laptop...

lol i know this is gonna sound corny
but

look at my user name!!

seriously if you want a computer that's gonna last for for at least 8 years then the mbp is hands down the way to go. For the casual user (music, internet, gaming and just having fun!!) this computer is the way to go, if u have the money to buy.

the macbook is a great computer don't get me wrong, but if you intend to play games, edit video and creat video the macbookpro is pretty much a portable powerhouse.

my finacee has a macbook and I have macbokpro and I much rather be on my mac!! When i get my camera i will post pictures for you to compair and contrast!!

hope this helps!

I think the blackbooks look really sweet, but when it comes to overall functionality, I'd rather be using an mbp. I went to numerous stores comparing them. (I didn't have one close by at the time so I looked at apple stores in NYC, RI, and Las Vegas). I really decided on the mbp because: for 500 more you get 2.16 GHZ, 15.4" screen, backlit keyboard, dedicated GPU, and choice of glossy or matte. They both come standard with 1 GB of ram and 120 GB hard drive. The only down side is the hard drive is user accessible on the macbook and that makes it really nice to upgrade!

After consider these options, I felt the benefits of the mbp for 500 more was worth it.

First the macbooks are great machines...I currently use a white mb and it is fantastic...but I will purchasing a MBP sometime in the next few months just because I like the way it looks and my wife is drooling for my macbook!!!

Hope that helps....

Jack what are you using it for? The MBP is more suitable for home use because of the bigger screen + higher res, IMO the macbook screen is too small but that's just me.

If you can deal with the smaller screen and don't need any of the pros extra features, get the blackbook, you'll save a ton of money and will get nearly the same performance.

Computers don't last for 8 years. If you buy a Macbook or Macbook Pro now, you'll probably be able to get 4-5 years out of it, and then you'll probably want to buy something new and fast.

I compared the two side-by-side before choosing the Black MacBook. I preferred the look and feel of the MacBook - especially the keyboard.

The biggest issue (unless you need the extra performance the MBP gives you - and I don't) is the screen size.

Since I already own an iMac, I went with the more portable MacBook. If I didn't have an iMac I would have chosen the MBP. The 13" screen is too small for some tasks - like photo editing - in my view. This is where I use the iMac. (However, as some have noted, you could always buy an external monitor.)

Hope this helps.

I am in the same boat too, and I am probably going to get a MBP.

All it really comes down to for me is the aesthetics. Even though the aluminum casing isn't new (I have a 17" PB right now), I like it a lot, enough to be stuck with it for the next four years.

But do college students bring MacBook Pro to school? Or do most buy a MacBook?

I was in a similar situation a few weeks back. I went to the Apple Store in Indianapolis and looked at both the Black Macbook and the MBP. I liked the more modern look of the BlackBook but, in the end, decided to spend the extra money for the MBP. The screen real estate and dedicated GPU are what pushed me over the edge into getting the MBP. I have not regretted my decision one bit :) Both computers are great though. I know I want to get into doing some video editing with Final Cut Express so I went with the MacBook Pro to ensure RT editing would be smooth.

The reason I went MacBook was because I needed a computer right away and didn't wanna wait to raise seven hundred more dollars as I had just sold my iBook. The thing is if I'd had the money, I would have gone MacBook Pro. It lasts longer, looks better and won't scratch as easily if at all, and is the sweet spot of laptops (not too small at 13" or too big at 17"). If you DO go MacBook, get black. It's so much better than white. White shows a lot of cosmetic flaws as you use it more and more.

I'm just curious - i had a few white macbooks and generally found them to hide blemishes very well - there were tiny scratches on the surface but they really were invisible. What cosmetic flaws do you see more on the white version? My black one looks awful after a day's use because it's covered with grease and smudges - I can clean if off but I don't want to have to do that to keep it looking nice. The white ones showed nothing.

Alright guys - I think I made the decision to go with the MBP and upgrade to 2gb of ram in a month or so. I am still waiting for my camera to sell (in the MR's Marketplace) and once that does I can purchase it!! I am so excited. I will post pictures of my set-up once it has arrived. Just have to wait for the key things to fall in place

1. Hope to sell my camera TODAY (Sunday)
2. Wait the 3-5 business days for my money to transfer from my PayPal account to my Bank account. (Meaning because I sold off my other computers, I will be computerless for those 3-5 business/bank days)
3. PURCHASE!

Major question. If I swipe my debit card as a credit card at the Apple Store, it will stand as pending in my account, right? Meaning, I could purchase it, say, tomorrow with the ~$2000 dollar transaction pending in my account and then have the money fall in from PayPal Wednesday, Thursday or Friday before the transaction goes through? Is that possible? I think it is to risky and I do not want to overdraft but if that would work then I am doing it.
