Blackra1n- The Gliches, Troubles and Triumphs

snow via blackra1n is not compatible with the 3g network. you must first go to to network and disable the 3g option before your unlock will even work successfully. if your concerned about your 3g status you may want to consider an alternate route than blackra1n, or just tough it out until the next upgrade.

Looks like she is able to jb it and tmobile sim works as far as getting a call but can't get to anything else, her screen is stuck on the recovery mode. After doing some reading, it says to leave the tmobile sim in the phone and run blackra1n again and that will bring the phone out of the recovery mode. That didn't work.

Does anyone have an idea how to get her phone to work on the tmobile network? what else can we try?

Here are the specs and things we have tried on her phone:
- upgraded to 3.1.2, 05.11.07
- serial number 46 (4th and 5th digits)

Steps we took:
- restored in itunes
- got fresh copy of blackra1n
- disabled 3g network
- after tmobile connected on her iphone, i called her and the phone rings and able to answer and make calls, but can't get to anything else bc of the dreaded recovery mode screen
- run blackra1n again
- reboot - same result

i would just do a complete restore and go through the process again, not inserting the tmobile sim until you have installed snow.

I don't think this is true. Blacksn0w should work fine for 3G on networks that support it. T-Mobile US users have to disable 3G because T-Mobile uses different 3G frequencies that the iPhone can't use; it has nothing to do with blacksn0w.
 
hey so i made a mistake i turned off my phone accidently on a tethered jailbreak . (black rain) and i restored my iphone to actory settings,,, i did the steps all over again but now when i try running black rain it just leaves a black screen no man with iphones help please.. so i did get the man with the face but after that i got a usb cord and itunes sign help?

iTunes Video Playback Problems

I have a few problems and was wondering if you had any available answers or help for these issues. I have looked online but have found no help so far.

My husband and I both have new iPhone 3GS 32G and have 3.1.2 and ATT 5.6. We JB them using Blackra1n and have snow.

My iPhone is having problems playing back video from iTunes video after installing the unlock. About 1/3 of the videos playback fine and the other 2/3 either have sound but the picture does not move or have sound but the picture is very glitchy and is unviewable for the most part. I have 32G iphone but only have 14G of movies on it and about 1/2 are animation.

He is also having problems with having no signal or dropping signal and having repeated failed calls after the unlock in areas that I normally have 5 bars and had no problems with my iPhone 3G.

He also had it completely drop a call and go straight to the reboot signal for absolutely no reason I can think of i.e., fully charged battery and no attempt to power down.

I am having a signal on my phone most of the times he is loosing his but am loosing mine and failed calls at other times he has signals.

Anyone having these issues or know a fix ESPECIALLY for the video playback problems?

My Youtube Will not Connect and i try adding "http://cydia.iphoneil.net/" and push won't download supposedly HTTP is not found.

But Blackra1n has worked PERFECTlY on everything but Youtube, No Wifi problems or anything
 
I got a problem NOW!! Just did the wifes phone and it installed all ok all the way up to installing winterboard--now its in reboot status and all I see on the screen is the Apple logo and it will not go away or do anything?? help

Have you checked your iBoot version? Sounds like you have a tethered jailbreak. Read about it here.

why are you restoring so much ???!!! all you need to do is run blackra1n again. not restore then redo it .. come on man think

That's nothing wrong with Blackra1n you just can't get Oranges 3G network where you live. It is the same with me and O2-UK it can be annoying but you have to live with it.
 
Not a true jailbreak

dont get me wrong, really appreciate geohot puttin in work for us all, but i prefer redsnow, on my pc i have a program called ifunbox, it was a file manager that was way easier than ssh the phone to transfer files, but now when i use it to transfer files, it says the phone is not jailbroken, i installed everything from cydia as before on 3.0 firmware, just wish there was a redsnow version for 3.1.2, other than that no real drawbacks

It is not "Not a true jailbreak." I don't know what's wrong with iFunbox, but the problem is not that your phone is not jailbroken.

ETA: the problem is that iFunBox depends on a file called afc2 but doesn't list it as a dependency in its installer. The developers just assumed that it would be installed on every jailbroken phone (to be fair, previous jailbreaks have usually included afc2). You can fix it by installing afc2add from Cydia.

I found this information in about 30 seconds by looking around the iFunBox website. Perhaps you should take a couple of minutes to do a little research on your own next time.
 
The only problem I had with blackra1n was not being able to have root access via DiskAid initially, but I installed some quick fix from Cydia and the issue was resolved. Very easy jailbreak and much simpler than PwnageTool.
 
No Service , weak signal, 3g after blackra1n/blacksnow

I have been reading the blogs for quite a while on this. I unlocked two phones. One worked perfectly and the other one did not. I am familiar with the pre-requisites for install. One of the phones is still very unstable( no service, losing signal etc, NO issues with wifi though )

If anyone has a confirmed solution PLEASE POST it.
