Caveman i was just curious as to why you went with the sony BR player? i tried doing a skim thru the whole thread but didnt see anything. was it bc of BR being sony's baby and HTPC or just because you already had it? i know some players can play both HD-DVD and BR (LG comes to mind) which obviously makes them very attractive for both libraries... any thoughts on those or expierences?

just curious. im thinking of trying out your instrucions. assuming everything is still working to date... i have both ATV and a 360, and wouldnt mind trying streaming on both...

just curious at how long this process takes on a mac pro from disc into drive to playable atv file? I realize this depends on the speed of the computer and drives, but i'm thinking it takes a long time on average given the size of a BR disc?

I have an amazing rip of Quantum of Solace and would be tempted to try ripping more as time goes on b/c i just bought a BR player (panasonic..not a computer drive).

im guessing it would take...
• 20mins-1hr (in windows using a ripping program) to rip to the HD - depends on the speed of your reader
• 2-4hrs to convert with handbrake to an ATV compatible movie

so about 5 hours max>??

I was thinking that would apply to a dvd, but with BD containing much more data (up to 25 GBs compared to maybe 7 on a dual layer dvd), I would think both times would be significantly faster.

I almost bought a blu ray external drive just to test it out, but i'll wait. I'm in no rush :)

Way off for me it is more like:
2 hours to rip Blu-ray using PS3
23 - 40 hours to encode depending on source and the quality I want.

for a DVD?? no way! on my MBP it only takes an hour to convert a DVD...

hhmmm ok then. the poster was talking about a MP converting it, do you convert with a MP?? you never know, he may have an 8-core haha! those things are pretty fast.

Oh MP, didn't see that part, I only encoded on one once as it is my dad's :( it took around 9 - 11 hours so yh your still off lol

well following these instructions, i've found that the ones that use a playlist file, the sound doesn't come out right. it doesn't work at all actually. any ideas on what i'm doing wrong?

Are using the largest file? are you removing all the correct things in TSMuxer? what film is it?

Not sure what's up with that. I only have two (both from Disney) and audio is just fine. Where do you get the problem, with the m2ts (or ts) file, or after you transcode with Handbrake?

i think after Handbrake, though i usually don't try to play the file before. I still have the ts files, so i can try to play those

i am using the largest file. the only times i have problems is when it uses a playlist file.

i am not sure if i am removing the correct things in TSMuxer. i just remove everything that's not in english. is this correct?

the films are The Rock, and The Incredible Hulk 2008

Are you encoding the Playlist by any chance? or are you trying to encode with DTS-HD/TrueHD (HB needs them downmuxed to DTS or AC3 I believe).

i am encoding the playlist file when bdinfo says that it is broken up into several files instead of just 1 big file.

i think i'm doing something wrong with TSMuxing. i am leaving everything as is, except i'm unchecking everything that is not english. is this okay?

In tsmuxerGUI, choose the playlist file (usually the longest duration), then you need to unselect all tracks except the 1080p video and the english language audio (usually 6-channel DTS-HD or True-HD). You need to click on the audio track if it is DTS-HD or True-HD and then select the box to extract the DTS or AC3 cores. Then start muxing.

ok, so i should only have 2 things checked, the video and audio. and that's it?

This may not be a very productive post, but I just wanted to say thanks to Cave
Man and all the other folks on this thread for the hard work, time and research they have done. Far too often people on these threads don't get the credit they
deserve.

Thanks guys!

Chapters and Meta Tags

I would also like to say thanks for this. But I do have a couple questions. I got DVD's ripping off my PS3 and playing fine and dandy on my ATV but the only problem is Meta Tagging these things and chapters. I cannot get chapters on these files for the life of me, god forbid I want to fast forward it just stops the movie since its all one huge chapter. Am I missing a step somewhere? BTW the chapters is not a huge deal but the Meta Tags are. Thank you in advance.

i was just surfing around their site and came across this. its a month old but was wondering what you guys thought about James' reply?

While nice, no one knows how AnyDVD HD deals with Blu-ray discs. If it has all that's needed to decrypt and de-HDCP on its own, then it could be as simple as a rewrite for OS X. However, if it requires garnering information from the OS (i.e., proprietary code build into the OS that allows Blu-ray disc access, as Windows currently has), then it could be impossible to port AnyDVD HD so long as Apple does not provide Blu-ray support in OS X.
