Happens with me all the time...as far back as Mojave. I let it all sit and after 15-30 seconds it reconnects again. Very frustrating.

I came across this thread as also been having same problem for many months.

In the past this preceded the computer having a panic and reboot, but after much tinkering and trial error ive got it so it doesnt necessarily reboot !

The first time i noticed a problem today was when the scrolling on my magic mouse stopped working.

To no surprise ( as ive seen before) when i go into bluetooth settings i see this strange flickering under searching. Anyone who has had some experience will recognise its not normal for it to flicker like that.

Curiously i observed this time that when i removed two xbox controller devices which i had paired... the flickerng stopped briefly and the scroll returned! after i send this message im gonna to see if i can toggle bluetooth and/or disconnect reconnect the magic mouse /keyboard.

My past expereince of doing this ive found one of the following will occur if i do this :-

(1) bluetooth will disable but not be possible to re-enable until after a reboot
(2) the keyboard will show connected while disconnected or vice versa

I do notice as ive been typing this message that though the bluetooth keyboard/mouse are connected it is loosing connection every 30 seconds or so for abt 5 seconds then reconnecting!

I've attached a video of the strange flickering bluetooth settings behaviour
