My biggest disappointment with it is that during the keynote, they made it seem like everything would be formatted really nicely, and remove all the junk. Instead, the vast majority of articles, you click on it and get a small snippet, then a link to "read full article" and it just pops up a Safari container. Thanks, I could have gotten the original ad-ridden thing myself if I wanted to.

Look at the 'Apple News Selections' under 'Favorites'. There are 10 examples of stories using the Apple News Format.

I don't understand all the negativity. The app is in its FIRST beta and people are hating it. You guys realize this isn't even an initial release product yet right? News sources will utilize this and make formatting and things appropriate for it as we get closer to launch and as the first year cycles through. Flipboard wasn't perfect on day 1 either....

The publishers have to adopt the Apple News format in order to be immersive within News app and they can choose not to use it, falling back to the annoying RSS feed, which is likely to be truncated.

Apple does not have the legal rights to modify the news content, only the publishers can.

What annoys me the most is that "For You" never displays ALL articles from my channels, only some of them. I currently have the exact same channels in both News and Feedly. While Feedly shows 157 articles from the past hour, News shows only 23. Stupid app.

This was a given.

Apple News was not going to sync read status to my desktop when I'm at work.
Read status has to sync to work computer, to home iPad.

Apple News will being right to the junk bloatware folder.

I wasn't commenting on the truncation of articles, I was just saying that I hope access to subscriptions get added at a future date. I know it's not there now, but that's what I meant by saying that adding that feature would make News a much better newsstand replacement.

Sorry, I accidentally multi-quoted you, it was only meant for the first quote. Ignore my post, I've edited it to point to the correct quote.

Was really looking forward to trying News out. Disappointed that it isn't available in the UK yet, guess I should be more used to it now.

I really don't see how it's useless. I find it quite useful to me, coming from Play Newsstand. :| Maybe it's no Feedly, but I doubt that it'll take 36 iterations to become just as good. Apple is the company with 200b in the bank, after all.

Aw, that kind of stinks. Well there's still time before the public release...I hope it gets added before then.

Macrumors was in my list of sources during the initial setup of the application. It was near the bottom of a long list but there.

I think it was mentioned already and if so this is a repeat. It needs to feed my selections into the cloud so that I don't have to complete the setup on other devices too. I assume it will as its made more final so for now, this will be used on my iPad only with my other apps I already use and hope to replace.

The fact that there's a setting for this via Settings.app > iCloud > News, good chance it will happen very soon, we're just seeing a very rough first beta.

They need to do the following:

1. Sync our selected channels, topics, and the RSS feeds we've added manually via Mobile Safari
2. Sync our read and unread articles, favorited and offline articles
3. Add an option to hide read articles
4. Add Reader mode or switch the Safari web view to their brand new Safari View controller, so we can use content blocker, other app extensions like 1Password and so on.

If they can make that happen all at once for 1.0, I'll be dumping my RSS stuff and switch to Apple News, despite the fact that I won't be able to access it on my computer.

I don't understand the purpose of the For You tab. It sounds like it only show a selection from various random channels you like but does not show all of the updates. This might be fine for Apple Music but for News, there needs to be a tab that shows all updates at once.

Plus CACHING -> Download articles for offline reading
Plus fetch linked articles -> if the RSS article is just a teaser, download (and cache) the linked article

Short: do what BYLINE does....

I wish they would take some of that 200b and buy feedly.

I believe from what I've read it's rolling out to the U.S. first with iOS 9.0, and the beta of 9.1 adds Canada & U.K., but I can't confirm since I don't live either of those places.
