Thanks for all the advice so far. I tried just using the old GPU in slot 1 but it was the same. So will downgrade to Snow Leopard and try again. Just a question but if I install Snow leopard will I then have to upgrade to Lion? Not sure if I can get it anymore so just want to make sure once I downgrade it I can then build it back up to Mavericks again.

Also... Should I try put the SSD in the hdd slot 1 instead of the pcie port? Wondering if thats been an issue?

Ok as the changing of the graphics card didn't work I decided to go ahead and install Snow Leopard. All seemed to go well, update took 30 minutes, said it was a success and then asked to restart the computer. It's now stuck on a white screen with nothing happening (
I turned it off as there was nothing happening and then switched it back on. It booted into Snow leopard and let me set it up. I then restarted it again to ensure it took and it rebooted into OSX Utilities screen again.
No leopard, no mavericks etc

TIP! Restore your Mac to factory to rule out possible hardware issues:

1. HD in HDD bay #1 (put SSD aside for later)
2. ATI 2600 in PCIe slot#1
3. Remove GTX-680
4. Remove Solo X1

Install OS X Mavericks

Yep strangely enough I'd had enough of all pcie stuff and took out the x1. I then put the Ssd in port 1.
IT WORKED! By 2am I had a fully loaded Mavericks OS again! Hallelujah!
Thanks for the tips really helped a lot.
Who knew? the PCIe card was the cause of most of it!

Now I have to reinstall the GTX 680 and try and get Bootcamp working again... This could get messy.

Going to keep the SSD in HDD slot 1 for the remainder.
Any ideas why it didn't seem to boot and start very well in the pcie slot?

As you would have noticed, the SSD mounted on the SOLO X1 will be listed as an EXTERNAL drive in About This Mac > System Report. That is the possible caude that OS X did not install correct.

I have the same with the SOLO X2.

Code:
SSD_OSXMAV2:

  Available:	493,89 GB (493.885.947.904 bytes)
  Capacity:	999,35 GB (999.345.127.424 bytes)
  Mount Point:	/
  File System:	Journaled HFS+
  Writable:	Yes
  Ignore Ownership:	No
  BSD Name:	disk0s2
  Volume UUID:	38AE5CA7-3E2E-309E-A0AD-56AEF10D9349
  Physical Drive:
Media Name:	Samsung SSD 840 EVO 1TB Media
  Medium Type:	SSD
  Protocol:	SATA
  [B][COLOR="Red"]Internal:	No[/COLOR][/B]
Partition Map Type:	GPT (GUID Partition Table)
  S.M.A.R.T. Status:	Verified

Now that you have a working OS X on your SSD, install botcamped Windows 7. When you're up-and-running with both OS's and installed your GTX back and installed the drivers you can mount it on the SOLO X1 in PCIe again. Despite that it's an external, you SHOULD BE ABLE to boot from it in both OS's.

Cheers on your success!!! :D

Thanks for all the help.
Just to clarify I should try and install windows bootcamp first before putting the GTX 680 in? Any special things I should set up before I do this?
Already have the bootcamp4 ready to go on an wxternal usb so I can install them when I set up the windows partition

YMW!

I myself installed Windows 8 Pro 64bit with my GTX-670 already installed in slot#1 and 8800GT in slot#3. So that should be ok.

Fingers crossed then... ;)

Thanks I looked into in but when I go to partition in disk utility I can't change anything or rename anything. I can press the + button at the bottom. Is that how you do it as video doesn't actually show full process.

Update:
Can't rename or change format. They are greyed out (

Please upload a screencap for Disk Utility, so we can see...

Disk Utility > Select HDD (not OS X partition) > Partition

Here you go. All greyed out can't choose number of partitions etc

Press the [+] button > select new partition with mouse?

Exactly. Since we're looking at the drive also containing your current boot volume, you can't select "2 partitions". This would mean erasing the current one.

Adding one by clicking "+" is the normal way to go.

I have clicked the plus button but it's all still greyed out can't change format etc

You have to click on Untitlted2 with your mouse....

----------

You seem to have created it already BEFORE making edits to name/format/size!

Delete Untitled 2 and create a new one. Check the video again carefully!!!

HOLD! Be aware to choose & create your BootCamp size carefull! What games are you going to play on the Windows side? 120GB is not exactly the best capacity for OS X & BootCamp

See: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1384895/

Was hoping to have seperate HDD I can access for games on windows. Is that not possible.

Apologies but I created the second screen shot to prove I can't change anything before AND after applying the partition.
I clicked on untitled2 but still can't change name, format etc (look at second photo it is highlighted but name and format are still grey)
Also I don't have the option to change it to windows nt like in the video.

Ok looked online, made it ms dos and then restarted and chose windows installer disc (I partitioned it as 60gb each). I then formatted the bootcamp partition during win 7 stsrt up under advanced options which changed it to ntfs I believe.
I then installed Windows 7 and all went fine!
Win 7 is now on the bootcamp partition.
I then installed the bootcamp4 package on windows.
Unfortunately I am now unable to connect bluetooth keyboard and mouse again.
Originally to get them to work I uninstalled the bluetooth drives in device manager and the loaded up bootcamp4 again and chose "repair" option. It worked that time. I tried it again but unfortunatly it didn't work. Still can't connect bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

Under bluetooth radios in device manager are:
Apple broadcom built im bluetooth
Microsoft bluetooth enumerator

Thanks I did that and then un-paired and re-paired mouse & keyboard. I then booted back into windows.
Mouse works fine now but keyboard still won't respond.
Tried re-pairing it again but didn't work.

I then restarted the bootcamp4 application and repaired the drivers but still no joy. It works fine in mac but windows still doesn't recognise it.

Was looking at Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033 and it says it's for mac pro 2009 or later. Would that be of any help do you think?
Someone also suggesred resetting the Vram/Pram but after the first time of it erasing my entire windows partition before I'm skeptical that will work!

Still no joy. Am open to suggestions now been looking online but nothing specific to my problem. Mouse works but keyboard doesn't.
Might have to make a new post.

What is the status of you setting up your system as we speak? What did you accomplish and what not, please can you make a list of those? MP 3.1 / OS X 10.9.2 / Windows 7 / GTX-680 / SOLO X1?

Mac pro 3.1 eight core xeon processors with mavericks 10.9.2
120gb ssd in slot 1
The solo x1 has been shelved for time being
GTX 680 installed cuda drivers installed but not latest graphics drivers.
Windows 7 on bootcamp partition

Yep I have installed the GTX 680 but not the drivers yet (except for cuda).

I have kept the SSD in the hdd sata slot 1 as the keyboard drivers are not set up yet.
I have installed windows 7 on a seperate partition and able to boot between both without issue.

Am aprehensive to put ssd in pcie slot until all is well first.
