There's a lot of confusion and mis-information here so let's simplify

The only time OSX/Apple touches windows drivers is during the initial install, boot camp assistant, windows support software, etc - complicating matters is Apple did relase an updated boot camp package a few days ago, but this is now also downloaded thru boot camp assistant for clean installs or via the web if you need to manually update an older package

After windows is installed, it runs just like windows on a PC namely all updates, drivers, etc come via windows update. Contrary to aidenshaw you can in fact setup windows update to automatically update your machine.

Drivers are not updated via windows update. They are updated via the Apple Update Tool

Either there's a miscommunication or you have been misinformed.

The initial install is the only one where drivers are obtained from Apple - specifically the Boot Camp Assistant program in OSX.

Once you have Windows installed, you use Windows update to obtain driver updates or go directly to the manufacturer sites for GPUs, etc.

Today, the "Apple Software Update" program only installs Apple programs like iTunes, Quicktime, iCloud control panel. It absolutely does not provide any drivers whatsoever.

I am using the previous Boot Camp drivers (5.0) and, checking Apple Software Update, I have can confirm that, as yet, there have been no offers to update anything to do with Boot Camp. Just iTunes and Quicktime updates.

Right, let us know if/when you do see the boot camp update there but I do not think it will ever show up via that app.

That's how I remember it always worked - ASU would update bootcamp. I am not talking about 3rd party gpu drivers, of course. I need to double check this, since I have not been paying attention lately.

I'm running a rMBP early 2013 and Windows 8.1 via Bootcamp. There is no automatical update shown in Apple Software Update. I manually downloaded the Bootcamp drivers linked in this thread and installed it via setup.exe. So I am now at 5.1, before it was 5.0.

Perhaps there is nothing new in the 5.1 update for the rMBP, so it was identified by ASU as not needed to get.

There are new drivers for the rMBP, a poster in Apple discussions highlighted the differences

Yes, I simply opened the setup.exe and clicked the next buttons. Deinstallation was made automatically.

I've installed the new drivers over the top of the previous ones. I'm using Windows 7 on 2009 Mac Pro.
Installation went fine. Things seem to work as before, except I've noticed a couple of possible bugs.

-The ability to use the keyboard to adjust volume and brightness is there when you first log in, but goes away after 10 minutes or so. The buttons (on aluminum Apple keyboard) simply stop doing anything.

-The Boot Camp icon also disappears from the taskbar after the first few minutes. It's there at first, but then it's not.
The Boot Camp control Panel is still available if you type 'Boot Camp' into Search on your Start menu.

If anyone else is having these problems, please let us know. I hope it's not just me.
