Too bad you already bought windows 7. Newegg has it listed for $140. Alternatively, if you or any of your friends/family still have a valid University email, many colleges/universities offer student discounts. I know I can purchase Windows 7 through University of Toledo for $60. My brother went to Ferris State in Big Rapids, mainly an engineering university, and he bought Windows 7 for $30.

I would think that I can't buy an upgrade disk because I don't have an underlying build of Windows to upgrade. I suppose I might be able to find a used cheap Vista, install it and then buy an upgrade disk.

No. You dont need to "upgrade" just format your drive and do a clean install. little registry hack to get around the upgrade only

why won't windows 7 install on iMac 2011 i3

when i first got my iMac i installed windows 7 via bootcamp easy all the time. then i re-installed os x then downloaded lion from app store and now i can't install windows 7. i open bootcamp and put a copy disk of windows 7 ultimate 32bit which use to install on my iMac before. so now it just ejects disc and bootcamp says it needs a windows disc. i have an original windows vista disk 32bit and that works fine and can install. I've tried doing different copies of windows and still no luck. there maybe another forum about this but i know how to install windows with bootcamp as I've done it so many times. thanks if you can help me :)
