Black Boot Screen - Mid 2012 Retina Macbook Pro 15"

smc version - 2.3f36

Anyone with the same model that can check their smc in Mavericks?

It does look like all the new models have black boot screens, while the older ones, probably up to (and including) 2011 models (Intel HD3000) have the white boot screen.

Oddly, I think you're onto something. It's black on my 2013 nMac Pro6,1, white on our oldest mac (a 2011 27" iMac), and black on our new Mac Mini.

No other correlations come to mind.

Weird. I have no idea now. Maybe it defaults to grey on an ext. drive as it isn't necessarily associated with any one Mac, yet black on the internal as it's directly associated with the new 2013 MacBook Pro?

Well I corrected myself somewhere not long ago. The 2012 models still have grey/white boot screen, so black goes only for "current" laptops, 2013+, although that retina above me seems to be some kind of exception.

Probably because an OSX on external HDD is not not considered top priority configuration, unlike laptops which still have warranty and are first in the line for fixing issues and bugs, that is all MacBooks 2013+ with OS installed on Apple's default internal storage.

Again, like I said before, grey screen it's probably Apple's way telling us that they consider these devices to be "not THAT important" when in comes to development. Harsh, but understandable.

My brand new base i5 Mini boots with a grey(white) screen. 10.10 is installed on a second partition on my main drive.

Perhaps if you install it as the main OS (first partition) then its black?

Can anyone prove this wrong?

I noticed on my 15" 2012 rMBP that it was black when Yosemite partition was default startup disk.

For people with the black boot screen and using laptops, what happens when you boot into Yosemite running off battery instead of AC? I've noticed that my boot screen turns a shade close to fuschia when booting on battery power, then reverts to black just before reaching the desktop.

Hey, I'm just wondering which boot screen you have? There's a black and white bootscreen. I think it depends on the models. The newest Macbook's got a black boot screen and the older ones got a white boot screen. And if so is it possile to change it?
Some stupid little question, but i'm just curious.

Have you tried this?

That forum is dedicated to changing your boot screen to black on white...
