I was able to boot off of the USB into HS Disk Utility. I was hoping it would boot into HS itself. I tried to run some Terminal commands for system info since I don't even know what processor or how much RAM it has. I ordered a SSD last night that should be here tomorrow (I miss same and next day Amazon delivery) and then I can replace the fan (hopefully the replacement works) and install HS.

If all goes well, my plan is to install Dos Dude's Catalina patcher and then Install Windows 10.

I found patched Catalina buggy on my 2008 MacBook and 2009 MacBook Pro, esp. with Chrome, but YMMV.

For the RAM amount, you can just look inside after taking off the back cover.

From what I’ve seen on YouTube the mid 2010 seems to run pretty well. I guess I’ll find out soon enough!

I’ve opened it up already buy I don’t see anything indicating what the ram amount is.

it’s clear from these pictures that your battery is missing? Many Apple laptops run at reduced speed (CPU is automatically locked to low power mode) if the battery is missing.

I’m holding off on the battery until I verify it’s working well.

Also I’m not sure if your firmware supports it, but you can also try diagnostics mode.
This might be the more appropriate link:

can anyone advise for a 2009 imac with the same issue? Trying to put the OS on an SSD. I can create a bootable USB from my 2018 macbook pro or a windows machine but everything I've tried so far has failed. The closest I've got was sierra which showed the bootable USB after booting with command held, but it showed nothing on it. Nothing else has even shown the USB stick. I am not bothered with OS goes on, I can update it as far as it goes once it's on. It seems like all the guides point you to getting the installed from the mac app store, which always fails. I've tried transmac on my pc and that failed too. Anyone got any pointers?

Why not just try internet recovery to install a system?
What system do you want to install?
You would need a bootable USB for whatever system you want to install.
If that is what you have, how did you make it? (where did you get that bootable)
Did you try using the same steps again to make that bootable USB installer?

I tried internet recovery but it says item not available.

I followed the one on youtube using transmac to make a bootable drive in windows.

I dont know how to get the mac to read the bootable drive.

Assuming the bootable drive is made correctly, insert the drive, restart while holding the Option/Alt key.
You should see the bootable drive appear as a bootable device. Click on the icon to choose it, then press return.
The Transmac steps don't always work, so no great surprise there if that drive is not bootable on a Mac.
Best way to do that is to make the bootable drive on another Mac.
You can also try another option with internet recovery, either Option-Cmd-R, or Shift-Option-Command-R
those may give you different choices for operating system install, and one may work for you.

is this method still applicable in 2022 for Macbook Pros released in 2010? I tried the methods above and Im getting item is unavailable. i think the OS is no longer available in app store.

2010 MacBook Pro shipped with Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6), which was never available in the App Store. It only came from Apple on DVD, never was a download from Apple.
But, you can boot from High Sierra, which can easily be downloaded from Apple. You can also download most any system from Apple support, from Lion to the newest. This page gives you some steps on how to get a system that you you can install. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683
Or, if you want something older, like Lion, or Mountain Lion - either of those can be downloaded through Apple's service pages.
Lion - https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2077?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Mountain Lion - https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2076?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
