Note to mods: This is not iMac Pro intended, but Mac Pro 5,1

Since Apple is not releasing BootCamp for MP5,1 anymore and we are forced to use iMac Pro BootCamp drivers to have APFS support, I thought that a thread tracking iMac Pro BootCamp releases, with the direct link for the current one would be useful, so let's start one. Apple is frequently updating iMacPro1,1 BootCamp.

Notes:

  • AFAIK, Apple don't publish any public release notes for BootCamp, unfortunately.
  • Please note that Apple remove previous released versions, so you can only download the most recent one for each Mac, exception of this case is iMac Pro that we can download two BootCamps for now.
  • Tim Sutton's Brigadier app is a lot more practical to use for BootCamp download, you should use it. The only problem is that you never know when Apple releases a new updated version.

Need help?

tsialex,

Thank you for creating this thread! Any release notes associated with this one? On the work computer right now so I can't download and look through.

I feel like in general, Boot Camp (fortunately) isn't something that critically needs updates every time. Just my $0.02.

Unfortunately, Apple don't publish any public release notes for BootCamp and the BootCamp ESD distribution file don't have any text about the update.

Apple is releasing iMac / iMac Pro BootCamp updates constantly, this is the second in a month or so.

Do the following:
1) download the current packedge of Bootcamp for iMacPro1.1 using Brigadier;
2) uninstall the previous version of bootcamp.msi;
3) install the current version of bootcamp.msi;

No HFS+ drives are visible. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers - there are no ApplsHFS.sys or AppleMNT.sys there :(

Did you ever checked 041-08805? I added it to the table.

What's the recommendation now for those who want a full featured Bootcamp on MacPro5,1 w/ Win10 Pro 64-bit?
(assuming it's safe to install the iMacPro1,1 Bootcamp packages?)

The only difference so far I've noticed is that macOS drivers are now listed first, while BootCamp is the last one. Of course no tray icon on Windows 8.1. At least I can boot directly to NVMe drive in UEFI mode.

I downloaded BootCamp6.1.7438 but I don't know how to install it over my current version of BootCamp6.1.6985. Can someone please post the steps to upgrade. I tried to uninstall my current BootCamp.msi but keep getting an error (another version is already installed, use Add/Remove on the Control Panel), but the option to remove/uninstall are greyed out in Control Panel.

I'm hoping the newest BC version will work properly for me when switching back to boot in macOS. Currently, if I click on "Mac" (macOS) in the BootCamp manager, it just boots back to Win10. But if I select "Restart in macOS..." it boots to my RecoveryHD on my macOS boot drive, but then I have to change startup drive to my macOS installation. I just want to be able to boot straight back to my macOS drive from Win without having to go via RecoveryHD.

Updated: I successfully used MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta to uninstall BootCamp6.1.6985, and that allowed me to install BootCamp6.1.7438. But that hasn't fixed my problem of booting back to Win when I select my macOS drive in the BootCamp Control Panel. I still have to use the "Restart in macOS..." which boots me into RecoveryHD, and then choose my macOS boot volume from there in Startup Drive.

Win: Windows 10 Pro
macOS: 10.14.3
FW: 139.0.0.0

Why don’t you select the option to open the BootCamp control panel, select the drive you want and apply. Then restart and go to the drive you want.

Doesn't work - it takes me back to Win10 drive every time. And now the "Restart in macOS..." doesn't work - it takes me to Win boot now too. Even setting the startup to my macOS drive, and starting up with Cmd+R to force to RecoveryHD doesn't work - Windows every time.

I've had to reset PRAM to get back to macOS. At least that works. Might have to pull my Win10 SSD from direct drive bay 1 in future - don't want to break my BootRom structure by doing PRAM resets each time.

In comparision under Windows 8.1 in UEFI mode switching from Windows to macOS works just fine. The only issue is the other way. I need to manually select EFI mode on boot screen to get back to Windows.

I have a spare 5,1 with boot screen and i loaded the most recent bootcamp i could find with 64bit windows 7 then upgraded to win 10. I can switch between mac and windows seperate boot drives with the control panels or with option start and the boot manager. Is that because I installed windows in legacy mode rather than uefi ? I am not sure i remember where i made that choice but there is no problem rebooting either way. Of course apfs volumes cant be selected from windows in the bootcamp cp, but this mac has a sierra ssd so its still hfsplus.

I guess I will try that when I upgrade that second machine to a system using apfs.Good idea. One my main mac I just use parallels to run some windows 7 software occasionally.
