For anyone wondering, there's another problem with Borderlands on the MacBook Pro 13". Using a PS3 controller and when you click square on a vending machine, it exits right away.

Just so people don't get scared he means exits the vending machine not exits the entire game!

Connecting the PS3 controller to the Mac via bluetooth after the game has launched will help fix the problem. We are still working out why it happens and if we can provide a permanent fix (or if it will fix itself with the next OS update.)

Happy gaming!

I used my PS3 controller via bluetooth to play Borderlands on my Macbook Pro and it works great.

However, when the battery dies it will just have my character look up to the sky and spin in circles endlessly and I can't get out of that even with the keyboard.

I've tried plugging the controller in with the USB cable to my MBP to charge it but doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know if I have to charge the PS3 controller on the PS3 and not through my MBP?

PS3 Controller exiting the vending machines

Hi,
Did anyone found the solution to the PS3 controller bug ? Because it exits the vending machines but also the teleport machines.

Thanks,

Jerome

Edwin, this doesn't work for me. I have restarted my Macbook pro AND and waited for the game to load up and even went as far as to load up my character using mouse and keyboard before connecting the PS3 controller, no luck.

Any further insights or help would be appreciated!

Have you previously synced your PS3 gamepad (and checked it appears in the bluetooth system prefs) before you booted Borderlands?

This sounds like a bug that exists in Lion on some peoples machines, we cannot reproduce the bug here when we tried on a couple of machines which is the first step we take when users report a problem. Can you please email support with your machine details as this will help our investigation.

Hi Edwin,

Yes, I did check in syspref that my PS3 controller was synced and a listed device.

I am using a MBP 17" (mid-2009) 3.06 Ghz intel Core2Duo, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M / 512MB
OS: Mac OS X Lion 10.7

Sent an email to Feral support...

Oooooo, so Feral support just gave me the same reply as Edwin. :(

...on the flip side, Apple has a software update! Wonder if this will change things...

Yep, the thing we need is your support report (generated from the Support tab). This will allow us to see what type of bluetooth controller etc you have inside your machine. This is most likely an OS bug but we cannot work out where in the OS the problem is or what machines are effected until we get some more clues from users like yourself.

I would hope 10.7.1 fixes it but looking at the fix list I doubt it.

Edwin,

I guess this is what you are referring to?

Communications
Built-in AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi wireless networking2 (based on IEEE 802.11n draft specification); IEEE 802.11a/b/g compatible
Built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate)
Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector)

Not really, that is the marketing specifications and does not contain useful information like the chip manufacturers :)

We have a "Support Report" it collates specific system information like the make and model of the bluetooth and other chips etc, it is based on the Apple System Profile but we also run checks on the game to make sure the data and the application are OK. This is the support information we need so we can see if we can see anything different in the hardware or your installation compared to other users who don't have the problem.

You need to walk me through how to get that then...

UPDATE: actually, got it. Just saw the email from Feral support....

UPDATE2: just sent email to Feral support with attached report...

Thanks please note we might not have an immediate solution due to the problem looking suspiciously like a hardware and/or operating system related problem. If we can come up with a work around or modify the game to work around the problem we will but this might not be something we can solve without an OS update.

If we confirm this is an OS issue we will get a specific set of reproduction steps we will inform Apple so they can work on a fix. If anyone else has a problem with the PS3 pad please send in your support reports along with a list of things you have tried and what you experience the more information we get the easier it will be to work out why some people are having trouble.

Woah, I got it to work...but only by accident?

The next few steps I used mouse and keyboard:
- loaded up the game
- loaded up my character
- accessed nearest vending machine then exited

....at this point, I connect the PS3 controller over bluetooth and it works. I know it's worked coz when the PS3 controller connects, the game opens up the map screen (for some reason).

I tried the same approach, but with the New-U Station, but it didn't work strangely.

However, the SELECT button still does not bring up the ECHONet screen when pressed....doesn't do anything.

Hope this helps others!

Sorry to dig this up.

I am getting horrible fps (~18 to 25) on my computer. I am using the App Store version of the game after reading many reviews that it works fine (~30 - 50 fps) on my computer.

Specs:
MacBook 5,1 (Aluminum Unibody)
2.4 GHz C2D
8 GB DDR3 RAM
nVidia GeForce 9400M
OS X Lion 10.7.2

I am running it under the lowest possible settings, at 800 X 500. Still it's horrible. Is anyone here with similar specs able to run it better?

Depends on the area and the options you have on. Email support and ask them to send you the performance test instructions and we can check your machine against one in the office. However be warned the 9400M was the min spec for Borderlands as it has no dedicated video RAM.

I do know for example some read of the DLC 3 can be pretty slow (but still playable) on this card.

Cheers,

Edwin

Playing Borderlands over a Lan

Hi,

I have downloaded Borderlands from apple and want to run a lag game between the apple and the PS3.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

PS3 version only is compatible with the PS3 version of the game.

I know it's an old thread but if anyone is subscribed the latest patch now supports 30 odd different gamepads and fixes the issue with the PS3 gamepad.

Here are the highlights.

• Adds support for additional game controllers (about 30+).
• Improves performance on HD3000 graphics card.
• Adds zoom toggle option for magic mouse and trackpad users.
• Adds increased cursor control (mouse smoothing) option.

The Mac GOTY is available to buy in boxed form (from our site and many others) or from digital stores including the MacGameStore, Direct2Drive & AppStore. The German censored version is still in approvals for the AppStore but all other stores the German version is available to buy.

Edwin

p.s. Thanks for all the kind words about our ports, we will do our best to live up the reputation :)

I know this is an old thread, but ... if you don't mind my asking ... why not Steam? Lot's of Mac ports out there, not on Steam. Just wondering. :)

My bet is on Politics & Control?

Steam with its SteamPlay feature necessitates Mac & Win versions to be sold at the same price, a price that Steam can change at their will for special offers, a price that might not be enough to recover the money spent in making true ports?

Honestly I have bought some games on Steam, but only when the price difference was huge or there was a jump in features (Superbrothers on Steam comes with the soundtrack the MAS version didn't seem to).

If I could I would avoid as much as possible Steam...
I can't stand their DRM system, and the buggy flash-for-video-needed Steam.app.

I also feel like the Steam.app is burning trough resources in the background, and a lot of full screen game had problems with exposé and others OS features that should be invisible in the background.

But Half-Life sure is fun ^^.
I just also wonder if they have done all they could to improve performances on the mac. (seeing the Linux performances now)

Steam's licensing policy and how SteamPlay works. I cannot get into specifics for various reasons but simply put companies need to cover their costs so they can keep porting games. If you don't cover your costs you cannot make more Mac games.

We do have our games in pretty much every other digital download store. They all (apart from the App Store) use our own DRM solution which was designed by us internally. We do not allow any repackaging by resellers.

Our own DRM only had one main goal in design. If we had to buy a game with DRM what is the best DRM solution we can think of? We took that plan and made it. You can have 5 Mac's registered at any one time, registering is a one off thing per computer. It has no phone home and no offline mode is needed.

You can even skip the online registration and use the DVD as the security token if you live somewhere with no internet at all (or if you really don't like online registration).
