It doesn’t matter, you pay your monthly bill and at the end of three years they tell you here’s a free phone. It’s kind of like a toaster, you really don’t think about what it costs you per slice you just know that when it starts to get old it’s time to get a new one and, in most peoples cases, it’s nice when the bread company offers you a free new toaster.

If you don’t care about $$$, yeah

You ask me, there hasn't been any innovation on on the iPhone since the X or any practical improvement on the iPhone since the 12.

I got a 15 because AT&T gave it to me for free. When you ask "why not use the current iPhone for many more years", there isn't a reason to when the carriers put us in brand new ones every 3 years at no charge. That's where I am with iPhones at this point. I think the vast majority of average consumers feel the same.
I largely agree that since the X there's been little improvement - with the exception of the camera. The main sensor in 48mpx from the 14 Pro, in ProRAW mode, is a giant leap forward, especially reviewing on big screens like the XDR. I imagine the other sensors will eventually catch up to the quality of the main sensor, which will be worth it for those who really want to use the phone as a replacement for a prosumer camera.

Technically yes but this would be a hard sell point for average people spending another $1000+ for a new phone while their old phone main sensor and cpu basically the same as the new one.

There are already sensors out there that are better than the IMX803 in IPhone 15 Pro so this argument is not valid until no new sensors are released.

Yeah of course there is “better” but if the “better” is so small that no one can really tell the difference in real life then better just spend $100 to replace battery instead of paying $1000 for a new basically same phone. By 2027 all new iphone models battery should be easily replaceable by customers because of EU requirement then I think Apple sales will have much harder time.

For someone in a proper plan, it’s $0 dollars every three years and a free iPhone.

For someone in an inexpensive plan, they have no business being in such an expensive phone if they are trying to save money.

You seem to be in nowhereland. You want the cheapest plan possible and the most expensive phone possible. You don’t think like a typical customer because you are not a typical customer.

And I would argue that for the typical customer the cameras have been good enough since the iPhone X and it’s something the average person no longer cares about, it’s just a given that the photos will be excellent at this point.

And I think I speak for a lot of customers when I tell you that the camera improvements are actually a detriment. First, they have markedly increased the file sizes and choke the storage space for many. Second, they require these enormous imbalanced humps on the back of the phone which look inelegant.

I would really like Apple to stop upgrading the camera needlessly. I would rather have a phone that weighs less and is thinner, an iPhone Air thank you very much. That would be a refreshing gamechanger.

Well, to this point. Apple has been three to four years behind the Samsung Galaxy line. IOS is usually a stable platform, but iPhones are years behind as far as tech/features. JMHO. Sheeple.. Yall are funny

With current technology limit, any phone provider can maximum put a 1 inch sensor in a phone, Apple is too closed to that already. Apple would not get too close to 1 inch for profit reason.

Let me know next year if iPhone 16 has any practical improvement comparing to 15 then we talk.
This argument is valid since the original iphone came out. It never made much sense to upgrade after 1 year.

But there is a difference when u say it will stay exactly the same for all future phones. And this is nonsense or a troll post

The only improvement that I’ll be wanting different than the current model 15pro is a smaller lighter pro model. CPU and camera advancements won’t be noticeable enough to make a difference

Honestly it feels like plastic, I prefer the old heavier one.

You paid the phone in your cellular plan. My 4g plan is just $35 per year and 5g in my city is not that much faster anyway.
No. People say this all the time. There is no cheaper plan for us who need unlimited data.

Therefore, if I bring my own device on ATT, and want an unlimited plan, it’s the same price. So, you are getting your phone “free”. The price of the phone is spread over everyone and they often get you to pay for it if you upgrade early, break your phone, or lose it since the bill credits stop then.

Is ATT more expensive than yours, sure. But doesn’t change the fact. If you have one of those small cell companies, great, but I’ve had small companies in the past and it’s been a nightmare if you have anything out of thenordinary - or issues that come up. To be fair I’ve had nightmare with big companies too.

Either way, same price - with or without phone credits

"Customers will never need more than 3G." …. Gary Forsee (CEO of Sprint before Dan Hesse)

Well battery tech has not improved for more than a decade already, exactly same for camera sensor and cpu for Apple now.

While there have been no "giant leaps" in technology for the last few iPhone, I think the 5X lens was pretty darn good. Until technology advances, we will only see incremental advances . . . .
