I’m not sure if this should be a separate thread, but just thought I’d let MBA and iPad owners know that you can use the iPad as a second monitor using an app called Air Display: http://avatron.com/apps/air-display

The app I believe is $9. I just set it up on my Air. It will come in handy when I‘m writing articles and need to park a web page or other application window over on the iPad screen for easy reference.

You can’t use the Air to park files onto the iPad display, but you can slide open windows, documents, and applications. It’s a wireless, networked (Wi-Fi) setup, and it works great.

This is indeed how I sometimes use my MBA. I was used to a bigger screen resolution before getting the 13" MBA and especially when traveling, I could really use more screen real estate. Having my iPad parked right next to the MBA lets me show another document on it, or a screen browser. This is great when writing and using other sources as a reference material. It is the most compact dual-screen solution I'm aware of.

To be honest, I bought my iPad and used the crap out of it, but after I got my 11" MBA and iPhone 4, I had to make an effort to continue using my iPad. I finally just gave it to my wife about a month ago. The funny thing is that I never think about wanting to use it. Maybe tablet computing is just another fad.

I'd 'like' an iPad 2 when it comes, but with a MBA 11 inch, and iPhone, I am really not 100% sure I'd get my moneys worth from all three!

I think my next Apple priority will be upgrading to iPhone 5 (or whatever they will call it) when it materalises.

I've used one, really. Many times with many hours. I'm aware of the apps. Just because i'm not as impressed with it as you are doesn't mean I haven't used it. It just means i'm not as impressed with it as you are.

You said it was a glorified iPod so "being aware of" the apps does not sound like you have actually used it.

The iPhone 4 IS your tablet. For many people (who need reading glasses), an iPhone is too small a tablet, and an MBA is noticeably more expensive.

For me, I actually let the cats use the iPad as much as I it. But I also have an MBA 11 and an i4 (and a bunch of other test devices for iOS development).

I said that BECUASE I've used it, not becuase I haven't. I'm not impressed, get over it.
