Coming from a 6s Plus. Didn't want to wait for the new ones, which will all be 'home button less', which I don't care for. Loved the form factor of my 6s Plus, not going to be disappointed with the 8 Plus, I imagine...
iPhone 8 probably last model to have Touch ID. Unfortunately Apply doesn’t appreciate how many iPhone users prefer it

I don’t think that’s Apples prerogative that they don’t “appreciate” how many iPhone users like touch ID. I think they’re thinking of how the future they can make the biometric security function even ‘better’ with Face ID, it’s just a matter of those who actually understand and see the future with Face ID. Some do, and some don’t. But I disagree with your assertion, even though Touch ID is still very much relevant for the iPhone 8 in years to come.

Very well thought out decision. I'll be using an 8+ until Apple no longer sells them. I think we will see under the glass Touch ID back in 2020. :apple:

Wrong on both counts. Buying an iPhone 8 (or any other current model) this late in the cycle is simply giving into instant gratification impulse - even if it is a perfectly suitable phone for someone, unless you *have* to buy a new device (lost, broken etc your current one).

TouchID is never coming "back" - Apple has never brought a deprecated component back. TouchID served its purpose and has now been replaced by a more secure, current technology.

Hmm just watched a video by Austin Evans and someone else comparing the iPhone X to the Note 9, and yet again the failure of Face ID cropped up, Austin said for him it works but for his fiancé it fails 50% of the time.
That’s what worries me with the X, for the price it cost it should have been flawless. It’s what you should demand and expect at that price level, yet you read so many reports of how Face ID fails.

It’s one of these things you don’t know if it works for you until you get one, and yet I know Touch ID works fine for me.

So I’ll still be split next month between the X and 8 Plus, especially as the 8 Plus should be under £700.

My only issue with buying this late in the year is the fact the iPhone 8 price will drop in about 3 weeks time. I’m not with you in regards to TouchID as I think it’s irrelevant if the person wants an iPhone 8. I’m buying one in a few weeks too and am perfectly comfortable with the fact TouchID will be supported and in use for a few years yet and certainly for the 2 years i’ll keep the iPhone.

Then we're in agreement on both counts. TouchID on *existing* phones is obviously not going anywhere, but my reply was in response to "under glass TouchID", which simply will never be used on an Apple iPhone.

I don’t think under screen TouchID will ever be used either but TouchID as a technology is not outdated or redundant. It’s just Apple have chosen to pursue a different method going forward on newer releases. They’ve invested in it heavily and iPhones with TouchID will be manufactured and sold for a few years yet.

I think an iPhone 8 is a very solid device to buy this year and will be significantly cheaper than newer devices without being too far behind in terms of real world performance. I just hope Apple sort out their iOS updates and stop releasing them while they are still crippling battery life on the older iPhones.

I bought my 8+ in April with the idea that this phone may very well be the last iPhone I ever buy. It didn't bother me much about losing the headset jack but I don't like the idea about losing the home button. I've only seen one person with an iPhone X and it was a boss at my job who was only there for less then 2 months and he's gone and I've never even used one and I don't want one.

I could very easily switch over to Android 100% as I've also been an Android user since the Nexus 4 around 2012 or so, and I currently own a S9+ and a Note 8. Apple will help me decide next year.

Summers over until September when part 2 is rumoured to start apparently. I shouldn’t complain as between May and the beginning of July we pretty much had a solid heatwave lol.

Lol it’s funny how many in UK moan about how wet and cold it is and now many say it’s been too hot and look forward to the winter lol

Your entitled to your opinion. There are still many who prefer Touch ID. My wife went with an 8 from her 6 because she likes a home button. She would have gone with a 6.1" LCD if it still had the home button. This was 4 weeks ago and there was nothing impulsive about it. She most likely would have waited until the fall for an 8 price drop if her 6 had not failed. It was a well thought out deliberative process. As was the same with myself last year when I went from my 6 to an 8 instead of a X.

So, before launching into psych analysis of individuals rational for their purchases try and step back and realize not everyone needs the latest device to thrive within the ecosystem. ;)

You basically confirmed what I said - the only reason not to wait the three or so weeks for a price drop is a broken phone which needs replacing.

Also I never said that TouchID is prefered by some (and by implication, that they should buy the device they prefer), I simply said that Apple will not be making any implementation of under-glass TouchID.

So before making snarky remarks, try and comprehend the post first. ;)

Everyone purchases iPhones what fits to their appreciation, that’s what I like about Apple, is that they have various options in their iPhone links up and I’m glad they retained touch ID for those who still want that particular biometric security function with the iPhone 8. As far is touch ID being in embedded under the glass, I don’t see Apple venturing onto this, as they truly seem to believe Face ID is there a future with the iPhone and likely merging into other products.

I'm about to do the same thing, but after the price drops in s few weeks.

Also just bought an 8 Plus after finding a decent deal on a brand new 256GB model with 2 years of AppleCare+ for $900. A little annoyed that within the first 12 hours I somehow managed to scratch the display, or display coating, next to the front facing camera by doing NOTHING but wiping with a microfiber cloth. Thankfully it’s small, barely noticeable, and I’ve got a screen protector on it now, but I’m sure none of my previous iPhones would scratch this easy. After doing a little research, scratches on the front and back seems to be an issue with these models.

I was surprised by how high the prices currently are on eBay for new models. I think I found a good deal with the AppleCare+, but prices are definitely going to drop soon.

Smart buy. I have a 8 Plus and really enjoy Touch ID. This will be the first time I hold out on upgrading because I am not sold on Face ID and still hope Touch ID will come in 2019. The 8 + is plenty quick and feels substantial in the hand. Enjoy your purchase!

I would whole heartedly recommend AirPods. They are well worth the price tag simply for the convenience alone. I use my Beats more, but man I love the AirPods.

For some reason, none of those in-ear headphones stay put in my ears. Don't know why, I can't see anything wrong with my ears :D
I've tried several brands over the years, including all the Apple ones, but no go.
Won't buy AirPods then, I'd lose them in less than half an hour. Bit of a waste of money.

I'll stick to my on-ear headphones :p
