Interesting....

In a review of the khomo, someone complained that it doesn’t wrap tightly around the corners , and this shows poor quality. The corners do look different than the silicone case.

With khomo and Smart Cover, I open on the corners.

I wonder if this is an accident, or if khomo noticed the same issue Apple saw, and modified the corners to solve.

yes i noticed the same thing on the corners - I think it's the design to make it easier to remove. Also, the corners take most of the shock on a sideways drop and the gap could act as a shock absorber

That's not what I wrote. I wrote "not conducive", which is different from "discourage"

Compared to other accessories, such as the keyboard or pen, the silicone case does not make work much easier.

Compared to the keyboard or pen, the silicone case is much better at facilitating reading, movie watching, and other non-work activities.
It doesn't make work any harder either. For some people like myself, work as a teacher means reviewing lesson material on an iPad, or maybe brushing up on a certain lesson concept by watching youtube videos, and if a back case makes holding it easier, all the better.

I suspect Apple might have wanted to push sales of the leather iPad sleeve by removing the back cover to make it fit better. You don't want to introduce too much variance in thickness when your sleeve is supposed to fit your iPad snugly without it slipping out, and you already have the Smart Cover and Smart Keyboard. Plus, a back cover is kinda redundant with a sleeve (at least you can claim that the Smart Cover serves the purpose of propping up your iPad).
