Bringing back the old Alert style notifications?

I took the jump and updated from my old very and very nicely jailbroken SE when the XS came out. I love the XS but now I'm stuck on iOS 12.0. I HATE the banner notifications. The first thing I always did on a new iOS update or phone purchase was to change everything back from banners to the old style Alert notifications and iOS 12 has killed off the Alert style leaving us stuck only with banners.

Any kind of app or tweaks out there that can get rid of these useless banner notifications and give me back my Alert notifications? Paid, free, I really don't care as long as the banners are gone and I can have Alerts back!!!

And YES, I have gone to Apple's page and submitted this suggestion to return the Alert notifications.

More than likely but I keep old versions of iOS when possible to preserve my jailbreak. My iPad that I have had for years is still running iOS 8 and my SE was still on 9 when I updated to the XS.

Well I'll keep my fingers crossed 12 finally gets jailbroken. Maybe I can pay someone to develop a tweak to get them back then. I wish I had the time to educate myself to do it. Surely I can't be the only one that hates these horrible banners.

But...why? Alert notifications interrupt your workflow until you tap on an action. That's a huge regression in how we use our phones nowadays. You're taking something that was acceptable in 2010 and trying to apply it 9 years later when iOS is infinitely more complex.

Alert notifications should only be used in an app when there is something the user should focus on immediately (for example, when confirming if they want to delete something).

Which requires going to the notification center to get them. With the alerts they stayed until dismissed.

Completely disagree. I still use my SE and my iPad on WiFi with the alerts on. It is a much better alerting system than the banners ever will be. I would take that over the banners any day. Actually the only time I use the new phone is when I'm out and away from the older iOS models. I may be the only one that still likes them but we should still have the option to use them.

No, it's just not, as proven by every modern OS on the market. You may like it, but it's incredibly inefficient and interrupts workflows.

That is the whole POINT to notifications!!! To be SEEN and either dismissed or opened to be acted upon!! With banners they are tucked away for however long they are there until the next comes in and it's gone. With the alert style notifications you will actually SEE them. The banner notifications are useless.

Meh. I too was an alert style person, but found out it was just for Calendar events that were important for me. But even then, with vibrate, custom tones, not something I've missed, what with putting those on lock screen (along with text and phone). And everything else showing in Notification Center, simple swipe down keeps me on schedule.

But, as mentioned before, none of that really matters as when it comes to iOS it's down to how Apple has implemented things, and in this case that's how it is (for better or worse) and beyond using options that are provided in iOS there isn't much else that the end user can do.

Disruptions are subjective as well just as preferences in alert styles are. Which was the whole point I why I was asking initially if anyone knew of any alternatives until the banner defenders swooped in.

Tried to add a photo to the tweet. What happened? Another banner swooped in and blocked the "done" button in the photos app. How useful! I couldn't even see what that second banner was because it was there for .00038372289298272388272 seconds and another new banner swooped in to make that other one vanish into space. Again. Great design there. I don't see why it shouldn't be possible to continue to use both. I had the old alert style box pop up an hour ago to nag me to update my iOS.

Since I keep my iOS on lockdown once a JB is released I'll just have to hope 12.0 finally has one released and tinker with creating something for myself then. So frustrating we have to resort to that.

I'm just old school in what I like. My iPad still running iOS is themed with a beautiful iOS 4 skeuomorphism theme. I had the SE themed with an iOS 5 skeuomorphism theme as well. I've been all things Apple since the 80's but each passing year since Scott Forstall left and Steve Jobs died I love it less and less now that it's been Tim Cook'd and John Ive'd to death. To the point where I'm not really sure how much longer I'll keep with it.

Isn't that the kind of thing that the old alert notification does, which you mention you like--basically interrupts what you are doing and doesn't allow you to continue until you take some action on the notification?

I don't think anyone is really saying it shouldn't be possible, simply that it isn't how notifications are treated these days and it's not an option that is being offered.

That old alert style was just plain awful. I couldn't imagine going back to having big intrusive pop ups every time an email or a text came through. The next thing they need to get rid of is how intrusive phone calls are.

You mean like the prompt for updating? The one that comes up when you're right in the middle of stuff?

Exactly those. Which are fantastic alert notifications for that reason. You see them and can dismiss or act upon them. And they don't get lost forever the second a new notification came in. Which just shows it is possible to continue with the much better ALERT style notifications for those of us that want it over the horrible banner style notifications.

What has the banners done? Let's see.... I tried to tweet something. Oh. Banner notification. I clicked on it accidentally because it popped in the second I tried to type. So now I'm in another app without having to OK or dismiss anything. Another banner notification. Now I can't see the back arrows or change apps. Yep. Great design work Ives and Cook. Great designs.

And THIS is exactly why jailbreaking will never die. I had to give up my larger phone screen but I've gone back to my beautiful jailbroken SE running 9.3.3 with it's beautiful and FUNCTIONAL alert notifications and skeuomorphic themes because the world would end if Cook and Ive gave in and let us actually decide what we want things to look like and how they work.
3 decades is enough of support and iSheep from me. Will they even notice or care? No. Not at all. The money I gave them over that time is not even a drop in their bank account. But this isn't the same company that I supported since the 80's. I'll keep what I have from Apple until the devices I own all crash and burn and then I'm done with it and good riddance as I replace them with other options. May they enjoy their lack of sales as they annoy more and more of their users.

You're simply not going to find any support for this so I'm not sure why you're bothering to argue. You're in the .001% of people who ever liked those massively intrusive notifications. The vast majority of people would rather not have their entire workflow brought to a halt every time that a notification comes through. It's a poor design plain and simple and Apple (and Android, Windows, etc.) did away with it years ago.
