Hi all. I just received my 13in 4ram 128 Air and I was curious what you all use as your primary web browser? I use Firefox at work but have become increasingly annoyed with its crashing and resource hogging.
Do people like Firefox on the Air? Should I experiment with Chrome? Or just stick with Safari?
Thanks for any help all.

Basically, you can't go wrong, no matter which browser you choose. Chrome, Safari, and Firefox all do a great job these days, so which you choose is just a matter of deciding which browser's features mean the most to you. I use Chrome because its ability to handle tabs by default works well for me but the others have other features that work better than Chrome's do. Thus, its a matter of personal choice, any of which is going to be just fine.

i prefer safari with clicktoflash, because 1) i like the look of safari a bit more than firefox and 2) clicktoflash saves a ton on battery life.

I have firefox too, and use it only when im trying to get to a page thats incompatible with safari... I've tried chrome, and I just don't like the feel of it.

Never had a problem regarding smoothness/lag/whatever with any of these browsers on my MBA 11.

I just discovered that the problem I had with Safari that convinced me to switch to Chrome got fixed somewhere along the line. I quit Safari a longtime ago because whenever I opened it after rebooting my old MBP it would take what seemed like 30 days and 30 nights to load my homepage. When I first tried this on my MBA several months ago, Safari still loaded much more slowly than Chrome did so I stuck with Chrome.

Today in the interest of science I rebooted the MBA and loaded Safari the first thing after the boot process finished. Wow! Safari loaded instantaneously. I was very impressed. I plan to stick with Chrome for the present only because it reloads the pages that were loaded when it was last closed. I also like its capability to save usernames and passwords for individual sites. So far as I know, Safari can't do either yet. Still, Safari is a good browser.

The trouble with macs like chrome since their market share is so small compared to PCs is the lack of plug-ins and general support for enterprise products like say webex.

so when i have to use webex conferencing (one example), i have to use firefox as webex/cisco doesn't support chrome today.

i just chrome 99% of of the time. it looks good, but it' sa commodity. i can use other browsers and get by just fine too.

You mean like this, in Safari?:

SafariRestore adds this function if you're interested ;)
Thanks, I'll check it out. I have also come to rely on the Chrome utility that prompts you to save a username and password for further use. Some highly secure sites, my bank's for instance, block the utility somehow but it works for most sites.

Safari does that, as well, except for a few https sites.

I searched Safari's preferences, albeit briefly, looking for a utility that would prompt me to save usernames and passwords but didn't find anything. How would I set it up? If it's too long a piece of string to explain here, please feel free to PM me. Thanks.

Thanks! Now that you've told me where it is, it turns out I already had it setup in my Safari preferences but didn't know it. One of these days I will shake off my sloth and give Safari an extended workout.
When I first migrated to Mac, I decided to force myself to use only Mac apps, whenever possible, so I would learn them faster. As a result, I've found Safari to be more than satisfactory for my needs, even though I was a die-hard Firefox user in Windows.

this is where i am at as well. this is my first foray into the world of macdom. i use firefox now on my win7 machine. just was curious what worked best on an air. ill probably just stick with safari.

on another note, these boards are great. have been useful. now i just need to figure out how to move my music library from a windows machine onto my portable harddrive and use said library from the harddrive rather than uploading to my air.

I use Firefox because of the Tab Mix Plus and Ctrl-Tab extensions. Yeah, Firefox seems to use more resources, but these extensions are essential to my browsing habits. If anyone can tell me if Chrome and/or Safari have similar extensions, I would gladly switch to them.

Interesting. When I got my first Mac in 2003 I shifted from MS Explorer, which I had used on Windows machines for many years, to Safari. I used Safari on my Macs exclusively until a year or two ago, when I shifted to Chrome. As noted in earlier posts, Chrome loaded faster than Safari and handled tabs much better, too. Although most of Safari's weaknesses have been corrected, I have come to like Chrome quite a lot so, being lazy, I will stick with it for now.

Chrome

I use Chrome and it is quick and smooooooth. It has a built-in "Click2Flash" under settings (I'm using the Dev channel, not sure if the public release "Stable" has it)... it's a GODSEND:
