Sorry, but this just isn't true. MacRumors looks great on an iPad, and even with my older eyes the text in the middle column is crisp and easily readable with no zooming. I can post an image of it if you need it, if can get one in focus using my phone camera.

If you have iPhone, open macrumors on it and zoom the center column to the same physical size as on iPad showing the whole page's width in portrait. Look how crisper small text on iPhone is compared to iPad. On iPad, small letters that are close to each other like "il" almost touch each other due to font smoothing. On iPhone, they're separate, much more readable. iPhone is 163ppi, iPad is 132. To have the same pixel density as iPhone, iPad would have to have about 1280x960 resolution, not 1024x768.

I don't think anyones trying to tell you that a 9.7" screen is going to be "better" than a huge screen. Obviously if I need to have multiple windows open for work I'm going to be working on my 2560 x 1600 ACD and not the iPad. What the iPad provides is an easy to use intimate browsing experience that is wonderful when your laying on the sofa, having a cup of coffee, etc. If you're just checking MR, Reddit, Engadget, etc, the browsing experience on the iPad is great.

I agree with you. I just don't get this "magical" feeling when browsing on iPad, but I do get it when browsing on desktop with multiple monitors. 2560x1600 + double 1080x1920 (portrait) = a magical and revolutional setup at an unbelievable price ($880 for 30" and 2x$180 for 24") :D

Thanks for the feedback

Sorry to have been absent to answer some of the criticism of my original post, my Internet has been very inconsistent. I even composed a response offline but now others have answered on my behalf so I'll just let it lay.

This confirms what I suspected, that those who've had a similar browsing experience to mine like don't love the iPad browsing experience by contrast.

Going from 15" laptop, to 19" LCD, to 30" LCD, to 24" portrait dedicated monitor (then down to 2x22"), I'm very cognizant of what an upgrade this is for Safari. I'm sure the touch and beauty of the IPS panel will be great, and I'll use it for browsing way more than I do my iPhone, but I don't suspect it'll replace my multi-monitor setup for the bulk of my daily leisure use.

What I'm not sure about, though, is whether a huge touch LCD would be a big improvement. With huge screens, in terms of ergonomics, I normally lean back slightly in my chair, and my arms extend comfortably to be slightly bent on the keyboard and my right arm almost straightens out to grab the mouse, in order to touch all of my screen real estate I have to lurch forward and *gulp* exercise my upper body and I feel like Tom Cruise (a la Minority Report) when I imagine manipulating 3 big monitors via touch.

I don't know, I'm generally a believer that the mouse is on its way out, but I struggle to imagine it working well... time will tell. 27" multi touch iMac on the horizon?

I'm still trying to figure out if the purpose of this thread is so the original poster could brag about this monster monitor setup, or if he's actually curious about the iPad browsing experience.

Obviously a 10" iPad screen is not going to compare to your 3 screens in your face, OMG isn't it crazy, setup in your home. But then again, you can't touch your giant screen setup.

The bottom line is this. If you enjoy browsing on your iPhone, this is a more responsive, mature, and enjoyable version of that.

every other thread just seems to be people boasting how rich they are
