The iMac above is clearly has value to some professionals. 10GbE, 27" high gamut screens, and Xeon processors ... you have another vendor offering that "out of the box" in the $2-3K range?

This should have Thunderbolt options in the near future provided the connection actually gets adopted by the rest of the industry.
If it doesn't then it is likely to be very limited in development.

The Z1 has some odd timing. It would have made more sense to wait for the Xeon E3 v2 (Ivy Bridge) offerings. It is probably going to be a while since they just launched it before yet another motherboard/version gets introduced. [ The Z1 will synch back up again later. ]

Thunderbolt isn't an alternative to 10GbE. You can drive a 1-2 4Gb Fiber Channel or a bonded 4 way 1GbE with it but that's about it.

The mismatch with the Z1 on is the 10GbE. Granted a revised version could use a solution like Intel's x540 (http://communities.intel.com/commun...ntroducing-the-intel-ethernet-controller-x540) but most vendors are still using 10GbE to push prices higher.

All the vendors are pulling from the same parts. It is the combination and price that differ. If Apple doesn't have "boxes with slots" to sell they'll have a higher motivation to put 10GbE on an alternative sooner rather than later. A common knock on the iMac is that it cannot ingest large media files from a SAN network. 10GbE makes that moot directly out of the box.

If there is a new Mac Pro it wouldn't hurt to put 10GbE on it also. Would help with the folks who grumble its price also.
