This better not be a thing. Both my phone and mac today...

If it comes back again then this is Windows 11 level of nag.

I saw it this morning on my m4 Mini and just ignored it (like the other annoying alerts that have been popping up to "learn how to use my new Mac" or whatever). Looks like spam to me and is a bit disappointing. But not a big deal, maybe there are a few people out there who actually appreciate this kind of thing? No intention of "doing what it wants me to do". ;) Seems to me, there should be a "don't show this again" button.

Happily, my phone is too old for AI.

Yup. This nag showed up this morning. Closed it. But it also shows up as an 'Update' in System Settings.
Clicking on it there resulted in a window offering 'Not Now' (not, for example, the option to 'Don't Ask Again'), which I chose. This closed the window and removed it as a flagged update.

As noted above, if this becomes a regular feature (and not, say, an offer with each OS 'upgrade'), it will be very irritating.

It’s just pointing out a new feature that people may not realize exists. Most Mac users aren’t tech nerds. Remember those features you really like will disappear if normal people don’t realize they are there and use them. 3D touch anyone?
Agreed, but a reported 73% of Apple users chose to not install Apple Intelligence when the honking great window was part of the install at the last OS update. Very little has come out since in the Media (tech or otherwise) to suggest that it's an essential bit of kit, while the option to enable it afterwards does exist. Like lots of hidden features / controls that exist on even the iPhone, but we don't get popup nags about them. The web can always direct even the non-tech nerds to them, if need be. And if an app / feature doesn't gain traction, then yeah, maybe it isn't worth the trouble.

So far the only feature useful to me that Apple AI provides is Clean Up in the Photos app. I got it on the Mac, and don't want it on my iPhone anyway because I want precision using a mouse.

All other features like Image Playground are just gimmicks, while the rest of them I can just use ChatGPT or Gemini (e.g. Proofread)

I am not posting my private stuff to ChatGPT or Gemini and have them Train on my personal data.

I tried Image Playground and got frustrated very quicky.

"make a chibi image of a scientist holding an erlenmeyer" got a "Language not supported" error message.
But "make an image of a bald eagle eating a patriotic cheeseburger" worked.
A single typo and it complains about the language,

It would be awesome if Apple intelligence disappeared. I’d settle for the ability to delete the 4GB of data it takes up on my computer

We've had Windows level of nagging long ago with constant iOS update notifications even when automatic updates are turned off or you swipe to clear notification. They just keep popping up.

Seriously, Apple. Stop trying to trick me into installing your buggy software when we know it's not ready until at least version x.5 is out.

Could you please run defaults read com.apple.SoftwareUpdate in Terminal and post the result?

Its a very Apple way of moving generative image creation from a the command line interface of other LLMs to a GUI. Its really just to let your kids mess around with though.

On a somewhat related note, ‘Show Apple Music’ has been de-selected in my Settings for eons. They still default to showing me search results from Apple Music, which I will never pay for or subscribe to (rather than my local library), every single time I open the app. I have to manually change it over to my library. Some of this stuff should be illegal.m — if it’s turned off it should be turned off.

Noticed something similar in the TV app on my m4 Mini. I searched for a movie (an obscure 1950's film) and it wasn't available from the store, but a hit showed it available for streaming if I purchased TV+ and also subscribed to some channel that featured the movie. No doubt, some people would find this helpful but I did not. :)
