MP 7,1 buy a mac pro 7,1??

Not at all, it was about Apple silicon, and OP mentioned Mac Studio with Apple silicon. At least I wasn’t talking about PC and going off on different path. It’s important to understand apple silicon doesn’t have VRAM concept. It’s unified memory. That’s big difference from Mac Pro or Intel based Macs.

Thank you for all the replies. I did pull the trigger and bought the 7,1 with a rx5700x. I have a Radeon rx6800 I am also going to put in it. I have two weeks to decided if it is good for me or not s it has a 2 week no questions asked retu5policy. So at $1700 I will cross my fingers. If I end up keeping it I may add another rx6800. So the mpx5700 x will run my displays and the one or two rx6800's will be for resolve only.

I hope it works out for you; that is a good price. I also have the 16-core as I found it was probably going to be the best all around CPU out of the lineup.

The only consideration should be whether you need the PCI slots that 5,1, 7,1 or 8,1 offer. If you do not, the Studio or even a Macbook Pro is probably a better idea for the money.

If you decide to do so, you can easily upgrade to a more powerful W3275M.

Its a really simple upgrade, even easier than the 5,1 CPU upgrades.

I have two days with mine upgraded so far, it even runs cooler.

Which I hate to admit is probably due to you doing a better job at putting heat sync paste on. For whatever reason, Apple was especially poor at this.

I suspect you are probably right. It looked like Apple had put a fairly solid amount on right across the old CPU but who knows what paste they used. The Noctua stuff I used might well be better.

I recently purchased one of these after giving it some serious thought. As I was purchasing for personal, not business, use I did so because the 7,1, from all appearances, looks to be the last of the truly expandable Macs.

I have had my 7.1 for a year now. The reason I got one was that it can be upgraded. And I have added stuff I didn't even plan to.
Today I got a RME HDSPe AIO PCIe card with cables.
