Why would they put conroe in the MBP isnt it more of a desktop chip?
Wouldn't it be more likely MBP and MB Merom MP Woodcrest Imac Conroe Mini...I don't know?
OK. The Merom and Conroe are very similar CPUs. The guts are nearly the same, but the packaging is different. Conroe is capable of higher speeds and faster bus. Power is proportional to clock rate.
or could put 2meg cache Meroms in Macbook and 4meg cache in the Macbook pro.

then again the heat generated by a merom is something like half that of a Conroe :D

If we really wanted to get power, we could always try a Xeon Woodcrest 5148LV which ahs a TDP closer to Merom's. ;)

you should defiantly wait to buy a mac, I hear apple is going to release faster machines in the next year or so...:rolleyes:

honestly right now it's probably worth waiting for memron because it looks like we're 2-3 weeks away, but any talk of waiting 6-8 months for a processor upgrade is just saying your not ready to pull the trigger just yet.

Defiant = defiantly.
Definite = definitely.

;)

I doubt they'd put Conroe in the MBP? People aren't even convinced that it will go in the iMac. I think it's most definitely Merom in the MBP.

Just out of curiosity what sort of work does someone do that requires more power than what is going to be available with Merom?

Ever reencode your entire music collection?
Ever reencode movies?
Ever rip/strip/calculate nonsimple things?

Ever try to fream of Aero solitaire? There are uses my friend....

I have done none of the above so I guess thats why I don't need it :D Surfing doesnt really take up much power I dont think.

Well ... its looking like I'm wrong about Conroe.
Maybe Macbooks 2meg Meroms and
Macbook pros 4 meg Merom.

Well I decided im not in a rush to buy my first mac, so I figured that with all the rumors going around about merom its worth the wait. I have enough things going on at school to keep me busy.
Not waiting for Santa Rosa thats Too long of a wait.
Im just still a little wary of the random shutdown problem. Almost all of the other macbook issues I could take to but I can't really afford to have the computer shut off during class. heres to hopeing that the new macbook will work fine.

But by the time programs start really utilizing 64 bit it will be time to get a new computer

Don't think so, considering some Mac users on these forums still proudly go "I am using an iBook G3 and I am so gonna get the next MBP". People who are using PC laptops would have chucked theirs long ago.

That's the difference, PC users can afford to keep replacing, Mac users tend to wait.
