The most advanced and efficient versions of M series are in iPads.
MacBooks come with a keyboard and trackpad, but no touch or pencil support.
The point is ipad can do it all without compromise.
The iPad can do most things the average laptop user wants to be able to do, though I don’t agree that it is without compromises. iPadOS makes most computing tasks more cumbersome than on a Mac. I think this is due to its origins as a phone OS where file support was tacked on fairly recently. I would choose my Mac for laptop-ish tasks every time (which is why I ultimately ditched my iPad Pro and got a mini). The iPad
can do most things I want. But it’s easier and more enjoyable on my Mac.
And if you need specialized software, there usually is only one option. And it’s not iPad.
iPads are different from Macs, but not necessarily more “futuristic”. If anything, I think Apple flailing around since 2015 trying to make the iPad Pro a “laptop replacement” has only highlighted the point that touch first devices are not best for all tasks.
