My plan was to wait on buying a new AW until the 8 came out as I just sold my series 4 to be at the ready. However a good deal on the 45mm series 7 in green ($308) showed up a few days ago online, so that did it for me. Plus I had a couple unused Target gift cards too. To me, I’m not sure the series 8 is going to be enough of an upgrade to soemd an extra hundred plus. Good luck with your decision.
A lot of rumors suggest the 8 will be lackluster. I’m holding out hope though. I was sad when the 7 turned out to be basically the exact same as the 6 (including the processor and battery life). It would be disappointing if they release the same basic watch for a third time. Fingers crossed we at least get a speed bump and improved battery life.

My guess is the AW8 will have a significant upgrade given how little the 7 was.
That said, if price is an issue, get an SE.
I like to think this too… I recently messed up my series 4 and Apple may charge me $400 for a replacement. At that price, I might as well get a new watch… or wait for the series 8. The real choice will be between aluminum, stainless steel or titanium…

With new models getting ready to be introduced, prices will drop. I just save $350 on a 16” MBP M1 Pro 1TB and 16gb and I could not be more happy. It will do way more than I need for a few years, at least.
