If you "don't got the money" then you can certainly consider skipping the AppleCare and the dock - - that shaves $128 + $22 tax for a total of $150 off your price, taking the total down to $630.

Of course, in six months you could wait and pay the same $630 for the 2nd generation iPad, or better yet, wait 18 months and pay the same $630 for the unbelievably advanced 3rd generation iPad!

Well, the Dock will come in handy, the only reason I see using it, is to have a slide show of your pictures on your desk? But ok, maybe not a dock, but I'd get the AppleCare. Come on, imagine getting the iPad and within a month, God Forbid, you or someone you know accidentally drops it and the screen cracks. Than you're pretty much screwed.

I remember when I got my iPod touch a while back, it was in great shape, then dropped it, and the screen cracked. It still works, but the bottom left corner of the screen is cracked, which sucks.

So I wouldn't discard the Apple Care. But I wouldn't want to wait another 18 months of the 3rd gen. The way I see it, I'm hoping to have the money by the time the 2nd gen comes out. And I'll be set with it for a few years.

Does the dock have video output or something? I thought it was just a place to stand it. I read some user reviews and they acted like it wobbled and whatnot-didn't fit well on it?

If I get one, I'm leaning towards the keyboard dock, since it seems like it could come in handy.

Apple Care doesn't cover accidental damage.

Apple Care doesn't cover accidental damage.

Though the included standard warranty does cover the hardware for one full year.

Buy today.......at 3pm!

I'm in no rush to purchase an iPad but I would love to wait for the second version. However I don't want to wait TOO long...

What is the timeframe of version 2?

My mindset is similar to another poster on here

I bought mine for a good deal on eBay, $400. I plan on selling it just before the new one is announced. I figure I could sell it anywhere from $300-350. I bought it a month ago. The new one is coming out...December at the soonest? April at the latest. So if I lose $50-$100 on the resale, I will have essentially spent that amount to "rent" an iPad for 3-6 months. For me, that's well worth it.

i think the next iPad will have 1 GB of ram too. well at ****ing last!

I wouldn't hold my breath. I waited for a High-Rez Macbook Pro from Apple since 2004, way back when they were called PowerBooks. They finally did it this year and it taught me not to expect too much from Apple as far as updates are concerned. Just a thought.

If you resell it on eBay you'll probably lose more than $50-100 if you price it at 300-350. Usually eBay and Paypal fees will take up another 10% of the final selling price. I'd rather sell it on Craigslist. I find that most people are horrible negotiators. I have done really well buying and selling there.

One fly in this particular ointment is "selling it just before the new one is announced." How, exactly, does one determine that?

It's analogous to what traffic-enforcement specialists refer to as a "stale green light."

Well, I just got an iPad semi-randomly.

Pages and Numbers are both better and worse than Docs to Go. Their interface actually works pretty well with the touch screen, but on the other hand th ey have this really weird way of interfacing with iTunes to transfer content. Docs to Go it's straight forward-copy stuff in itunes and you're done. Pages/Numbers, after you copy stuff in, you still have to import it from within the program on the iPad, and export it too...it's like you've copied them in to a holding area on the iPad, but then you still have to import/export on the iPad.

Not intuitive, and I hope a future version eliminates that step.

Otherwise...it's a big iPod, running an old OS. I don't know...it's okay so far.

I went with the bluetooth keyboard after realizing that give me more freedom for how to use the iPad-including docking it horizontally in this holder thing Best Buy has for $50...it's a really nice device.

For the time being I'm using the Apple dock.

Oh, and it does need more RAM...hit the same limitations my iPod does (obviously).

^So what the hell does the warranty cover?

The same thing any warranty ever has covered lol if it's apples fault your iPad breaks they replace it... If you break it then you need to buy a new one... Fortunetly ipads are very durable, something that other tablets don't seem to be understanding.... If you make something small and light enough to be carried around then expect it to be dropped lol. I've dropped my iPad countless amounts of time and it's still in one piece. As for buying now or waiting.... Would you buy milk the day before it expires? Maybe if you plan on drinking it all in one day but otherwise No you wait for the fresh milk. (I know, terrible analogy but hey it's a terrible question)

Guess I never posted that I returned the iPad I bought. It really is a giant iPod. What's fairly impressive on a 3.5" system is underwhelming when blown up to notebook size IMO.

I have to agree that the iPad isn't perfect, but it's still nice for simple surfing and entertainment. The giant ipod touch connotation can be a pro or a con depending on your point of view.
