I was going to get an iPad Pro 12.9 2018 this week then realized June is coming up and I’ll feel stupid if something is announced. Or also scared that new ones will come out September and then I would have just got the 2018 now and be tempted. What are the chances?

I doubt we will see a new iPad Pro until next year but like you say WWDC is only round the corner so unless it’s needed a little wait and see

Wait until WWDC is over.

Agree with others. Given that WWDC is next month, the worst that could happen is that you’ve postponed a purchase for one month. The best that could happen is that either (1) you can get a newer iPad or at least know something about it, or (2) you’ll get the same 2018 iPad for a lower cost.

I was also a bit nervous of waiting in case the trade in value of my current 2017 pro goes down. But I guess I can wait until June 3rd

Wait until WWDC and see where the software is going. The updated iPad pros will likely be released late fall or next spring.

well the software wouldnt make me NOT want to get it as i know for sure i want a new generation ipad pro already. i feel like since i dont feel like waiting until october to buy maybe ill get the 2018 now and then trade in and get the next one in october if its AMAZINGly better

There are plenty of people buying the 2nd gen iPad pros as a upgrade right now, let alone the 3rd gen iPad Pro. If you want one, I’d say go for it. It will most likely be another 12 months from now before we see a new iPad Pro launch. The cycle for iPads is just not as vicious as phones are.

I’m very happy with my 11”, I will easily keep it another 12 months or longer.

My gen 1 12.9 is still running rock solid while I wouldn’t mind a gen 3 TBH the bending reports do make me reluctant and really see no issue to upgrade while it’s still a decent tablet. Once the age effects missing iOS features I guess it be time to jump to the newest

The earliest new ipad pros will be announced is in the Fall...and there is some indications that they won’t be updated until next year since the current ones were such a huge redesign. If you need or really want one, i wouldn’t hesitate to buy now. I am absolutely loving my 11” ipad pro & don’t plan to upgrade for a few years. I edit photos & 4k video on it as well as draw on it with the new apple pencil. Good luck with your decision.

You didn’t mention that little factoid in your original post. Yes, there’s a strong likelihood the 2017 will be worth less the day a new model is announced, as is the case with any product. Apple, or others, may also have a trade in program that could be attractive. My 12.9” iPadPro is older than yours but Apple is granting a $244 trade-in value for it...you’ll likely do better. You may wish to also check prices with the usual online buyers of Apple equipment like SellYourMac, and others. All of this is fodder for your now more-difficult decision.

I'd go for it. The odds are we aren't gonna see a new pro this fall, and if software changes aren't going to affect purchasing, I wouldn't bother waiting on WWDC.

The last iPad Pro was released on November last year. I doubt Apple would release a new iPad Pro just 7 months later. If you need it now, buy now. If you can wait until the end of the year, wait until Apple announce the new iPad Pro on November.

No new iPad Pros for WWDC... but I'm waiting until November for the updated Pro.

You really think there is going to be a new iPad Pro after just 12 months?

The new iPad Pro was changed drastically. So now apple is switching to phone life cycles too?

A new iPad Pro every November?

Buy one when Best Buy has a $200-$150 off sale. They will not be upgrading the iPad Pro this year as the 10=year Anniversary of The iPad is April 3, 2020. I give it a 1-2% chance they do anything at all with the iPads this year.
Also they packed in more advanced and cool tech and a kick-butt design that makes the new iPads beyond amazing. I don't know what much else beside RAM that Apple can put in them.
Buying iPad Pro now is like buying a MacBook Pro (upgraded chips and SSDs won't matter much, as it will last for a very, very long time, and is capable of so much more than what iPads could ever do before.
Like I said the only reason I plan to upgrade is for more RAM.
So buy now, (or when there is a good sale by Best Buy.)

Kallum.

I’m in the buy now category. We’d have leaks by now if another pro was coming out.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a iPad Pro 3rd gen right now even at apples MSRP they are only 5 months old, almost 6 months old? These devices have plenty of live left in there cycle. Probably 12 months left starting next month, before a new iPad Pro will be announced. Also, just because a new one comes out, doesn’t mean they are always better.

I’m looking forward to the new iPad pros around mid 2020. But, anyone after a new iPad Pro now should definitely buy the 3rd gen without question, especially if it is upgrade time. They are awesome and easily worth the money that apple is asking.

I may not upgrade in 2020. I already have 6GB of ram, and 1TB of space on mine. This thing is gonna pass through 5 years easy. So, I dunno after only 18-20 months when the new ones come out, they better be good! They probably will not be all that much better though in terms of raw performance.

Also, it is possible that apple stretches the 3rd gen pros a little further. There seems to be rumors of a new iPad Pro in 2020 WiFi only maybe, and a 5G iPad in 2021. This may be a sign that it is launching in late 2020, for the cellular models to shortly follow after.

Yep, it is just way to soon.

I have a feeling a new 2019 iPad 7th gen is coming though. $329 price point at launch? Im not sure, but either way the 6th gen is still so freaking good.

I never implied anything was wrong paying MSRP... BUT sales are always better. ;)

I want to say the iPad Pros are on a 18 month refresh cycle...?
That seems accurate to me since they have done it that way since the Pro series first came out.

It's not long until WWDC so it's wise to wait for that. I was hoping for a new MBP announcement but it looks like they've decided on a little spec bump.

I think the update will be when a new "X" A chip arrives. That will likely be next year as I think A14X is the next chip.
