i know there’s a load of these threads but I selfishly need your advice in my own thread!

In the UK, I can get an iPad Pro from Apple with 0% finance until August 8.

I’ve fallen in love with the 11” device after playing with it in store. I could only get 64gb though.

Do you think there will be a new low entry offering of 128gb this fall? Would it be the same price as the 64gb is now?

How likely is there to be a refresh this year?

As 64GB is now entry storage on the Mini and Air, I wouldn’t buy a Pro with it and think there’s a fair chance the refresh will go up to 128GB. There’s also a chance that base RAM in the Pro will move up from 4GB, as the Air/Mini now have 3 and all Pros except the 1TB and the 9.7” have had 4GB since 2015.

I also wouldn’t buy a model that had already been out for 9 months. At those prices, I’d want to have the latest and greatest for as long as possible.

There’s a very high chance we will see new Pros this fall. Ming is 100% sure.

I do feel the new Pros might be 128 GB base. And given the current pricing, I do feel the new base 128 GB would be the same price as current Pros or not much more. If that.

The thing is you’ll probably need to wait till October to December. That’s quite far away.

I’d say if you’re on a recent iPad, you should wait. If you have something really old like Air 2 or something, might as well upgrade.

That’s what I feel. If Ming is to believed the new Pros are just 3-6 months away at most.

And there’s a fair chance that the base model would ship with 6GB RAM and 128 GB storage.

Don’t stress about the 0% finance thing too much. If Apple does withdraw that Finance model, you can always look to a interest free credit card (not that I am condoning debt....it just seems to be something you’re keen on).

Which iPad do you have now?

I have a Mini 4. It’s 3-4 years old.

Good point on the not stressing about finance. That whole Apple temptation with finance is pulling me in but I guess I could wait.

Re getting 64gb; I could buy any size but I’d prefer to spend low as I already have a MBP and new iPhone XS.

Half here saying no refresh in 2019, others saying there will be! :-/

So I think it depends on opinion. Because the battery of my air 2 decreased I was in a situation paying 99 bucks for a replacement or use this money into a new device. I did not go for the pro but went with the 256 gb Air 3 because:
- No OLED (I will get a new one as soon as they are available)
- it’s out quite a long time, risk is too high to get replaced too soon

I used ca. 32 GB of my 64 GB air 2. So 64 would have been fine for me but I would not go for 64 GB in 2019. It’s annoying if the device gets out of storage.

I think it’s better to save up some more bucks and wait for the next pro if you don’t really need a new one urgently.

There will be No Refresh in 2019. Period.
For example I keep trying to buy a high end Laptop. And I keep saying No because my IPad Pro does 99% of what I would use a Laptop for anyways.

What do you mean you have money for the 64gb version only? In this case you should take an in depth look at your personal fiscal situation first and stop buying products you clearly shouldn't be buying in the first place.

What kind of rude statement is that? The OP didn’t ask you to comment on their situation - they asked if it’s worth buying an iPad Pro because there are doubts if a new one will be launched soon. Apple offers the 64GB model for a reason. Stick to the topic and don’t be so quick to judge.

OT: I would say just go for it. Apple’s release cycles appear to be changing and the A12X chip appears to be so powerful that it would be a waste replacing it so soon so I’d assume they won’t replace it. Also 64GB is manageable with cloud storage.

Balancing this very question and then the next step if I take it....12.9 or 11?

I'll just sit and waffle for months until a new one comes out again lol

I'm not so sure, maybe because I'm rocking with a 64GB iPad Pro, that I think they'll continue to offer that, as a way to artifcually market the low-ish price of the iPad.

As 64GB is now entry storage on the Mini and Air, I wouldn’t buy a Pro with it and think there’s a fair chance the refresh will go up to 128GB.
As I mentioned, I'm not so sure, I have no insider knowledge, but just my opinion that they'll keep the 64GB option. Apple seems very slow in upgrading storage (and ram) in the standard configurations.

And there is no new Pro iPad on the Horizon atleast in 2019.
Why do you say that?

I can back this up.
Please back it up - I'm curious as to why you think there won't be. I'm not disagreeing but you can back that statement up, so I'd like to know :)

I can't speak for the 11" but I found the 12" to be just to big when compared against the 10.5. I find my 10.5 to be holdable and I use it often while in my recliner. Either reading, playing games or using some apps like excel or word. The 12" was just too unwieldy I felt (at least for me) to be best on a desk and not just held upright like a smaller tablet. YMMV and my usage isn't yours

Why do you say that?

Well Cmon we are on a Apple Rumors site everyone here is speculating and guessing on the info leaking out of the supply chain and media so no one can confidently 100% say and so no one can explain his theory of any product for sure arriving or not arriving at a particular time. It is just based on the current vibe and news. which does not look that there will be one !!

Amusingly enough just had to go through this same thinking as I needed a larger screen, and I had to weigh having one now and for several months, versus waiting and hoping something new would come along. I went with the current 12.9 with the base configuration so that when I get my yearly bonus, if there is a refresh I can get it in February. And if there isn't, well then I have some savings above and beyond what I'd have otherwise. Just my .02 worth...

Is the bend still an issue? I see a lot of youtube videos w/ bends w/ normal use. I hear lte version is more prone to bending than the wifi counterpart.

That’s a design flaw. That’s not going anywhere.

What a rude comment. OP did not ask you for financial advice.

Exactly. We are not financial consultants here.

My prediction is the baseline model will arrive in spring 2020 (not 2019), with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, although there is a chance it could come with 128 GB storage.

If you get a model with a bend, return it.

I have an 11" LTE I bought Day 1 and there has been no bending.

Also, keep in mind that YouTube likes to sensationalize things. I'm not saying there isn't an issue, but I would say that it's been blown way out of proportion.

I'm not convinced that it's a design flaw as much as a manufacturing defect.

I have not seen him say he is "100% sure" that a new iPad is coming. In fact, he predicted possibly a refresh with a processor upgrade, but no major changes until 2020.

Processor upgrade is new right?

Processor upgrade is new right?

The prediction was a possible processor upgrade in 2019, with no details on what the processor upgrade would be. With 2019 already half over and his other prediction for a larger refresh in 2020, it doesn't make much sense that Apple would do even a processor upgrade model.

IF they do a processor-refreshed model in November, it will mean that the newer model won't be released until AT LEAST November of 2020 - and the 2019 refresh model won't be worth waiting four months for (maybe... MAYBE... six or seven years down the line, a slight difference in processor will make a difference if you can update to the latest iPadOS).

Buy now and don't look back.

Personally I agree with these statements. I mean the Mac Pro is going to start with a 256gb harddrive for a multi thousand dollar device, if that’s indication of how Apple makes their money, I would not expect them to increase the stock storage size on the iPP lineup.

Second, keep in mind that with iOS 13 you will be able to use external USB storage natively, so that can help mitigate some of the issues.

I personally like the 11” model I just got. The 12.9 is just to unwieldy for use while sitting in a smaller chair, or in close quarters with others. A family member has one and it’s too much imo, unless you’re using it as a complete computer replacement. I have a PC already, so the 11” was a better choice to me, and I opted for the 64gb for the lower cost and because I can use my USB-C flash drive for photo storage if need be.
