Hard to say for sure, but I'd venture to bet that we'll see a RAM upgrade in Oct/Nov with the launch of OS4 for the iPad. This would be a running change with nothing else. I just find it hard to believe that they can't update the iPad right now with OS4, unless they see some kind of hardware deficiency.

That said, spacing the launch of OS4 out to year's end, would give enough time in-between for a RAM upgrade to keep the early adopting peasants from storming Frankenapple's castle. It will suck yes, but there won't be a revolt as there would be right now should the upgrade be introduced.

I'm just wondering if I should buy an iPad right now, or wait to see if there will be an updated version with some sort of camera or something.

The way I see it is, if you have the money available then why wait? You will be forever waiting for upgrades.

Who knows what is round the corner, with regards to Apple or iPad updates or in life in general!!

Has this just turned into an argument? Personally, I think that facetime is not going to go anywhere for a long time. The only people that can use facetime is people with an iPhone 4. I don't know anybody with an iPhone 4, so to me, facetime is useless. I agree that on the iPad, using a skype app would be good, as more people have skype than an iPhone 4. I never video chat and if you don't, you don't need the camera. As for the camera on the back, go to walmart and buy a higher quality camera than the one on the back for $50. It won't be a good camera, so don't bother waiting for the camera. As for the ram, processor, and maybe even the storage... I can't comment on it, Personally, I am hoping for an intel atom chip in the iPad, Adobe flash reader, more ram, a hard drive (128gb hdd option), a higher resolution screen, and if Apple wants to give us facetime and whatnot, fine, but I really don't need the camera on the back. I don't want to lugg around a $1000 iPad for the camera.

Buy the current one, you would wait almost a year, the iPad first needs to be released in another group of countries and also be able to ship them in less than the 6-10 days time they have now

The next iPad might not be cheaper, i don't see a new display like the iPhone's retina because the iPhone's brings you desktop resolution and the iPad already has it, next iPad proly means just facetime and more storage

Yeah they really make it hard for you to decide. I'm looking at it everyday in every way. I really would have made good with the front facing camera for work and a few usb ports wouldn't have hurt it either. I'm choosing to wait it out. However, if your just buying it to play around go on and pick one up.

I don't think that the iPad will be coming out soon. Apple still needs to update many products, the new iMac is out and the Mac Mini came out about a month ago, but they still need a new MacBook air, Mac Pro, all iPods, maybe a new macbook pro, and distribute the iPad to more places. If you have a reason to get the iPac and need it, buy now, it'll be a long wait if you don't. If you just want it because you want it and it's a cool thing, wait. Personally, I'm going to wait, because I don't need it.

The iPad won't have USB Ports anytime soon, this device is rather designed for consumption than production, and even if some people scream at me for this, It's a big iPod Touch (nothing bad) It's actually great to be that, what i mean is that you get the same stuff and limitations but with a great screen

As a sidenote, It's a beautiful thing to own First generation hardware and see how it gets better and keep comparing, did that with the First iPod Touch with iOS1 and it's just a very cool experience and the iPad will evolve that way too

No, I disagree, it's better to own a newer product with the new features, and now your 1st gen iPod touch is outdated and slow, had you waited for the second generation, you'd have payed less and would still be able to run ios4 (slowly) now. You would have gotten a better looking, faster iPod.

You know, I was being quite reasonable and I have now seen 2 snarky comments to mine. This forum is really a disaster these days.

Agreed. How did things go downhill so quickly around here? There are still plenty of great members and quality posts, but there's also way more trolling and insults.

I think it's great that the site membership is growing — I just wish the membership spike was more about quality than quantity.

there should be sticky about this. kinda gets old when new people come in and repeat the same questions over and over.

No. There will not be an updated version of the iPad until at least April 2011. If there is no competition to the iPad coming, expect even a further delay.
