They sell a 128GB drive i7 mini? Why is 128GB even a choice in 2019? That's crazy that small of a drive is an option on the i7 variant. I thought it was only an option on the i3 variant. Apple needs to be a less stingy on the expensive models.

As long as people keep handing Apple their money, they'll continue to do that. I mean it's just so plainly obvious that it's suggestive up-sell strategy. They gimp the basic configuration to the point that you have to ask if you are going to run out of room so why not spend $200 more for the base model with 256GB? Meanwhile a 256GB M2 storage card is dirt cheap these days but they went with soldered storage to encourage you too spend more. You don't have to but it's just nothing more than suggestive up-selling.

Sorry to bring negative but the X5 is not made to boot from (it ?*). I've tried and it crashes nearly each day. Wake from sleep works poorly and high CPU usage completely freezes and crashes the iMac. The Samsung support told me the X5 is for storage only.

I think it's a better way to boot from internal NVME and maybe put the ~/Library folder externally.

*sorry for my english

ive been booting off the x5 500gb and its been rock solid. I am actually using it to shuttle my work os from my home studio to do stage work on a macbook pro and back home where it gets worked all day every day. If it dies a early death oh well.

Probably because 128 GB is ok for server use?

Justification and rationality for configurations are all relative to each use case. My point of view is purely based on cost value. $1,100 for a i7 128GB/8GB Memory Mini is ridiculously expensive for what you get in 2018/2019, even by Apple standards. i3's sure, keep the 128GB option, but not the i5 and i7 variants. 256GB drives should be standard on the i5 and i7 variants for how expensive they are.

TBH, the only way to get an i7/128 is BTO on the i3. The i5 model comes with 256.

I would say their price is fair for an i5. I picked up a 2018 i7 3.2 with 512gb and 8gb of RAM for $1,300. (plan to upgrade ram later.)

buy now, if they update just sell your mac mini if you can't stand what the new one offers. consider it a "lease" for the time being, they hold their value well.

Yes they do ,as my 2012 Mac mini is working fine with no problems i will stick with it for the near future .it is fine for my needs i only do irfor basic stuff.

I have just seen this on Gumtree
3.0Ghz 6 Core Intel Core i5
8Gb RAM
256Gb SSDL like new, only 10 months old, in its original box and packaging. £600
Was £1099 new, direct from Apple. That is very tempting. Has anyone bought anything on there?

I would not attempt to do it myself, it looks like a job and a half:(i know an Apple repair center where it can be done at a reasonable price :)Do you know the make of ram in it , so I can just get one the same make?16gb of ram should be enough for me. Heres the video of Jeff,s 9 to five Mac the guts good:).
it sure takes some work.:(

OWC never lets me down. I believe they ship worldwide.

Can the SSD be upgraded in the 2018 Mac Mini.?

No. You can pay Apple to have more built in or you can buy an external drive. The external drive will be cheaper, but slower if it’s a USB3 SSD and take one of your ports.

I am not going to pay a lot of money to Apple just to put a bigger ssd in there.:( i
have external drives here.I have gone off the idea of getting the new Mac mini. I have a 512ssd on my Mac plus the fact that a seconed drive can be put in there. i don,t like the idea of secerety boot and no SD slot.I will go for a iMac in the future.Although i want one with out the Magic keyboard trackpad amd mouse as i have them all ready.

Amazon just priced matched BH Photo and are selling the i5 Mini for $949. That’s $150 off the base price. I cancelled my order for the i3 Mini and went with the i5 Mini instead.
