i wouldn't worry about it, macos manages the battery charge and discharge pretty well, i used to run al dente which you can cap the charge at 50% if thats something you are interested in.
This is where I'm at with it too. Appears to me that MacOS is handling it, so I'm going to choose not to worry about it. I use the laptop when I want to, plug it in when I don't. For the most part, it seems to charge to 80% and hold. But not always. Other things to worry about!

worth getting as the M2 version will likely be a very minor spec bump

Thanks all. Bit the bullet and got a base M1 Pro 14 for £1700. £199 saving from apple, and via John Lewis you get a 2 year warranty.

It’s awesome isn’t it?!
Congrats it's a great machine. I have the 16 inch and expect to keep it for quite a long time if I can. My guess was at least 4 years but could certainly last me a long time.

Does anyone know if the new M2 14" will look any different? I just picked up a 14" for $1499 and thinking that's a good deal, dont always need the latest (would be nice) but with inflation and all... :)
Honestly the 14 runs so well, its hard to imagine more improvements!
Any advise appreciated!

Not sure anyone "knows", but I would be surprised if the next MBP14 is anything but a spec bump.

Enjoy your new machine in good health. So much computer for that money.

there
See I’m sat here with a massive grin on my face because I have a Dell laptop for work, decent enough machine but the battery has only ever lasted 2 hours before running down - that’s just running outlook, excel and PowerPoint!

I’ll take 8-10 hours on a charge quite happily 😬
My Dell XPS 13" 2019 never experienced battery power lasting over 4 hours,
even MicroCenter was baffled when I showed them this the first month I used that notebook.
and Dell could not supply a replacement for their product this summer.

meanwhile in Ville, my MacBook Air went over 20 hours and had 20% left.
that includes watching 3 MLB™ baseball games online that day!

Looking at a piece on the MacRumors front page, it looks like the release of the M2x MacBook Pro 14" and 16" models will get pushed back again.

Might as well "buy now"...

Apple is wisely waiting for the M3 chips instead of doing an M2-Pro/Max.
So it would seem, but at a time when the competition has lept frog Apple in some respects it puts them a little behind the 8 ball. Yet with that said, its really the right move

Sure, Apple's competition has caught up to where they were a year ago with their two year old chip design..

Actually, AMD's 5900H was on par with the M1. Its not that intel and amd caught up to apple two years later, they were already on par, now with zen4 and 13th gen intel, they enjoy a significant edge in performance.

This is why Apple has to wait, because releasing wildly expensive laptops with a minor speed bump, competing against zen4 and intel 13th gen who has significant performance gains could be painful for apple.

Apple has to wait because releasing M2-based MacBook Pros only to release M3 computers half a year later would be bad and rightly piss off people who just bought the M2 MBPs.

I highly doubt it. I love my 14 MBP and at the 1499 price is a steal. That price is cheaper than an Air with similar specs. Also you need to remember the new MBP will come out at full price and possibly more thanks to inflation so you would be looking at a base model price of 2100. Maybe Apple doubles the storage or ram but thats unlikely.

with digitimes saying there's another delay and max tech saying there could be new mbp's in the next few weeks its kinda hard to believe / trust anyone
More rumors are stating its being delayed and it makes more sense to delay imo

March/April seems more likely on balance of all the rumours, but with Apple, who knows? Could be even June or early fall. Maybe the 14" will be the first touchscreen? Extremely unlikely, but you really never know with Apple's secrecy. My advice is that if you are already fretting about it and may regret your decision, to wait, IF, you comfortably can. If you need it now, the present 14" is a great computer.

I bought my 16" pro in December (after ordering and returning a 14" in November) and I'm happy with the decision. First of all cause it feels like I've had it for that extra month even though I haven't, and also because we KNOW these are great machines with some possible issues for sure, but nothing crazy bad as far as I know of. I'm happier going with a sure thing rather than whatever the next offering may or may not be, and the problems it may or may not have.

Then again maybe they'll release something so cool I'll regret my decision. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see. For now I feel very satisfied with my decision.

We just have no way of knowing whether or not it's delayed. Apple could very well have intended it to be released on a certain date all along while provocateurs in the supply chain cast aspersions that muddy the waters.

Well I guess it's now resolved. The 1 hour extra battery life is nothing to sneeze at so do look at your return policies and consider that. But it's not a huge upgrade otherwise unless you a power user and want a whopping 96 gb.
