New iPad Pro is going to have a ToF camera which will render all prior iPads extremely outdated. Don’t buy an iPad now
Outdated? 😂😂😂 Yeah... no.
ToF cameras will be used for more accurate AR and some better depth sensing photo taking, nothing more. You really think that’s what will make all iPads obsolete? What about Macs, Apple TVs, Apple Watches, and iphones that don’t have that... are they obsolete too? 😉😂
sorry but what an odd comment.

Maybe. I have 30 days. Even then, my device isnt just going to stop working because they made a new one. Lol.

Obviously it will continue working. I was speaking to the longevity of the device after many years. Devices with more RAM appear to function better over the long run and after OS updates.

It’s a big feature that is worth waiting for. Why buy an iPad now unless absolutely necessary? It’s not often that a revolutionary tech such as ToF is added to an iPad or iPhone(Coming in 2020) and considering how mediocre the current iPad’s camera is compared to the iPhone 11 Pro’s Camera it is a very welcome upgrade that is well worth the wait.

The camera wouldn’t bother me, at all. Never used it, but I still think waiting to see if there are any announcements this month is the best option if the very latest model is important to you. If nothing from iPad is announced then you need to decide if waiting sometime (likely spring) 2020 is worth thee ‘probable’ minimal upgrade over buying now in 2019.

It may not add anything in the immediate, but if they raise the RAM from 4GB to 6GB it might make a difference in the future.

Given that the lower spec iPads are at 3 GB, that will last the usual 3-5ish years from now in my opinion. More is certainly nice to have but not a deal breaker anymore if not.

I bet the majority of iPad camera uses is document scanning hence dramatic camera improvements are not that big a deal compared to an iPhone that people always have with them.

Honestly not interested in a camera upgrade all that much on an iPad. I don’t use like I do my iPhone for taking pictures. Too big. It’s a tablet. More interested in a possible spec bump. Amazon has a decent deal going on right now that I was interested in, hence the inquiry. I don’t “need” anything right now. Would be nice to have and make life a bit nicer.

The spec bump would be interesting, particularly if it’s tied to their touted support for full Photoshop. The showcasing of that certainly would help with the upgrade pool out there. Add to that a more durable design, and I would upgrade in a heartbeat. The camera I don’t give three craps about. To me, it’s a wasted resource that will only add unnecessary cost to an-already overpriced unit.

Outdated for who???

I haven’t heard one iPad Pro user out there wishing they had a ToF camera on the device. It’s a ridiculous function that will only make this unit more unnecessarily costly for the average user.

Ridiculous function? photography must not be something you’re interested in seeing advance further and further going by the way you speak, you must be one of these people that would be fine with a 4mp single lens camera on your iPhone or iPad from the days of the iPhone 3GS

Sorry, but “photography” is not, and never will be something anyone buys an iPad for. That’s what a decent dslr or even our emerging camera advanced mobile phones are for. iPads have their place & function in my life, the camera on my pro 12.9 is actually quite decent but never will I be pulling it out to capture impromptu moments. Nobodies really chasing apple for camera tech on iPads. The power to edit photography quick, efficiently on iPad is a significantly more attractive draw.

Scanning a Room in 3D for AR purposes is something that is going to be a major feature that your iPad will not be able to do whether you think it’s an important feature or not.

I can do that on my iPad Pro at the moment. Also, my phone does that. It’s kinda boring to me so I doubt I’ll be using that feature much tbh, but I can do it already from both iPad and iPhone.

I have a $4000 Nikon D850 and about $10,000 worth of lenses for my photography. I don't recall ever turning to my iPad for any photographic work. I do, however, use it from time-to-time for document scanning -- something that the vast majority of iPad users turn to the built-in camera for -- and yes, a smaller pixel count would work just fine for that.

Dont buy , the next one will be better and hopefully will not bend so easy

Depends on your definition of better. If you mean, latest and greatest, then yes. If you mean, marginal spec bump and a camera upgrade, meh.

Seriously, how many people are doing (or want or need to do) that? Certainly not enough to justify a feature that such a tiny percent would use, but would bump the cost of the iPad upwards of several hundred dollars for those (the VAST majority) who wont.

That's what I am, a person not interested in advancing things further... or rather a giant 13" iPad Pro camera. 😂😂😂 I have a dedicated camera for my business that works (if I used an iPad for photography I'd punch myself for even pulling it out.) I'd also never find photography work again. ToF isn't a BRAND new tech that will change photography forever, It's a great feature and will improve some things, but it isn't a necessity or even a innovative idea that needs to be put in every device with a camera. I get along fine with Sony AII mirrorless camera, and then my iPhone Pro for casual shots.

Kallum.

And you must be someone who takes pictures with iPad on holidays. Seriously, couldn't think of anything more ridiculous than your comment. ToF is not major for average user on an iPad. Sure, it will be nice but average user will notice and appreciate it on a phone, not on an iPad. Only (insert a swear word) shoots pictures with an iPad.

Your comment is really distorted from reality.
The poster you aimed at to made a valid argument. Your argument is not valid unless you are a retired tourist that goes on sightseeings with iPad as your main camera. Hahahhahahahahahah

ToF is going to have various AR related applications and uses that your current iPad will never be able to achieve due to the lack of ToF, Period. Interior design is one thing that comes to mind that will greatly benefit from this added feature. Whether you care about AR (You don't seem to care to the slightest it appears, Which is fine) as well as the benefits ToF will bring to the entire camera array of the iPad will be a very welcome addition.

If this event is not about an upgraded iPad Pro, what would it involve?

Also, the 11” Pro is awesome. How much did you get it for and is it new or “refurbished?” If “refurbished,” be careful because most of them on Amazon are not refurbished by Apple.

All refurbs on the Apple website come with a 1 year warranty and some are decently priced. A LOT of 10.5 Pros are on there. Quite a few of the 11” Pros as well.
