I am wondering if the price will go even lower before Christmas. I got a MBP M1 with the Best Buy deal, but don’t plan on opening it (Christmas present).
I bought one and haven't opened it yet either. Give it a few more weeks to see what black Friday has to offer...

Aww, you folks are great. I'm always appreciative of the generosity and knowledge so freely shared on this forum. Some contradictory opinions, of course, but that's to be expected. It really helps to hear the knowledgable voices of those in the Mac community for someone like me, who doesn't always keep up on the latest/greatest. I know either M1 or M2 will be a huge improvement, so either will be great, but also want to maximize my investment as much as possible, so it is great to hear from each of you.

I will probably end up getting an M1, though may hold off until after Thanksgiving in case there are any sales upcoming. Thanks again.

Just stick to the old adage "buy the computer you need when you need it" and you'll be fine. Look at it this way--during all this time you were waiting for an M2 model to be announced, you could have been just using the M1 Pro/Max model, and as @maflynn mentioned above, probably at a discounted price. If it's between wait another (probably) 4-6 months for the M2 or get an M1 now, I'd get the M1 now. I doubt the design is going to change much if at all, if that's what you're worried about.

I would buy now.. Whether it's Amazon, the Apple refurbed store, Best Buy, Costco... the price for m1 is falling. I got a 14 MBP 16b/1tb for $1899 from BH a few months ago. They even had the 10c 16gb/1tb at one point for $1799 (I think). I agree with the earlier poster that basically M2 may cost more (and it's definitely not going to be $400 off).... For a 10-15% performance increase.... it's not worth the cost
