No. The MacBook speakers REALLY suck, even for a laptop. It's their biggest weakness IMHO, even more than the GMA950.

That's true; I guess it's because they're underneath a layer of plastic. Either way, it's another reason to go for the Pro.

but on the other hand, airport is stronger with the macbook. you can always buy headphones or plug into externals (both of which i have).

I've found Airport to be just fine on my mbp. I think that the days of crappy wireless reception are nearing their end.

Wow! you must have been very unlucky. Most people who have had both have said the whining was much less or non-existent in the C2Ds vs the CDs. Could be my ears are getting old. :)

If that's true, then I wonder how loud the CDs were. My first MacBook was in for repair two times at the same place, and after three or four weeks they decided that they couldn't find the sound! Then I had it "repaired" at another place, and they replaced the logic board. They also told me that they didn't think the sound would get quieter than that. To me, it sounded as bad as ever. The C2D was practically unusable to me in a quiet environment, good thing I never experienced the CD MacBook.

I ran InCrease and my temps reached about 83C which I consider fine given how much the CPU is doing.

Did your CPU also underclock itself? You can check that out by running CoreDuoTemp. Maybe there's another program that does it too.

I think I need to go to the Apple Store in my state sometime soon and mess around with the MacBooks.

I only have experience with the MacBook Pro because they only had those out for demo at Circuit City. If I messed around with a MacBook first and maybe/maybe not see these problems you guys talk about, I'll probably change my stance on what version to get.

But, until then, I'm staying with a White MacBook because the white just rocks.

That really stinks. Can you keep just sending it in to Apple until they actually fix it, if some units aren't supped to be loud? That would drive me nuts.

the car execs are saying white is the new silver, so you might be on to something.

(I use iMovie to convert old family VHS to DVD)

If you do this a lot, I'd go for the MBP.

I guess you really need a laptop, because an iMac would be a much better choice, if you don't need to carry your data around. Especially as a main system.

When my third MacBook also had the issue, they said that they didn't want to send me anything new and that they would give me a refund instead.

But here I am, still buying Apple computers. OS X is addicting.

So what did you end up getting, and did it work right?

Thankfully I've had good luck with the Dell and Apple computers I've bought as far as noise goes (so far). I hate the X-Box 360 though because the thing sounds like a lawn mower.

Sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine. It's addictive, not addicting. Addicting is a progressive verb form, while addictive is the adjective form.

I ended up with my money, and now, several months later (I kept using my very old PC which would basically choke when I surfed the web), I bought a MBP. Unfortunately, no, it doesn't work right. :(

Ah, sorry, I'm not a native english speaker. I appreciate being corrected. :) I should've known!

Yuck! What happened with it? :(

It has a flickering screen. Hopefully I'll be able to get it replaced with a fully functional one. It sure is a nice computer (assuming it was issue free), perfect size and weight for me. :)
