Actually - the #s are different for different posters. So there's no hard and fast rule on how much it would actually cost to pull of this "ditch"

But whatever the cost - it's not all that different than buying the phone outright without a contract. AND you don't jeopardize a relationship with AT&T should you want to return for whatever reason within 6 (I believe that's the magic #) months.

Why not just buy it outright and have all the freedom you want vs trying to ditch?

Because to most people, ~$150 far outweighs the opportunity to use AT&T in the next 6 months.

Do you have concrete proof that it's $150. Or are you just estimating/guessing? my guess is the latter.

I'll repost what I already said:

200+sales tax
170 ETF
45+cell taxes
36 activation

451 + ~25 taxes. Which is significantly less than paying a non-contract price (600 + ~45 tax).

45 is 40 for a month of cell service, plus about 5 for the prorated period. You can remove the data plan right away (this I have done). I'm quoting the amount I would have paid had I canceled on my 31st day of service. So no, I'm not guessing.

but that's your guess based on instant cancellation. Do you ACTUALLY know that you can do this and without more charges. Because those that have done it and have posted - have had to pay more. So your #'s are theory at best.
