If you find a sim free

Warranty - global.

AppleCare + as its insurance now also, is regional, though Apple have replaced my unit with Australian AC + in U.K. Though I suspect if I made a claim....that might have made things interesting

Yeah this is what I thought. For the cost of the tool, you’d have thought it’d be easier to just include it in the box. I do remember that the T-Mobile SIM card was already installed into the phone and I had trouble removing it while on holiday.

I've purchased both a Verizon X and a T-Mobile X in the US and neither come with a sim eject tool. I bought a Verizon 7 last year and can't remember if it came with one or not. As has already been pointed out you will only be able to reserve a T-Mobile one online in the morning.

Either model is good for bringing to the UK, as well as for worldwide roaming (although Verizon/Sprint versions do support CDMA which may help in some rural parts of China) and this year the performance from both modems seems similar.

Both work perfectly with my UK 'EE' SIM and had no problems activating either. I simply removed the included SIM card and popped in my UK sim before first powering on the phone and it just booted up like any other new iPhones do and activated immediately.

For the Verizon phone I just walked in to an Apple store when I saw they had stock, and bought it outright, no questions asked.

The T-Mobile one I simply reserved online at 6AM and paid using Apple Pay with my UK credit card (I was't sure this would work but it did with no problems whatsoever). Just needed to show ID when collecting it from the store later that day. The online reservation asked for a US phone number and didn't accept formatting of my UK number so just put my hotel number to tick that box!

PS. If you, or anyone else, is intending to purchase from the Apple store in Christiana (Delaware), the staff there will refuse to sell to international visitors as a walk-in. I'm not sure if this is something to do with Delaware having no sales tax and them trying to discourage scalpers.

Hi, just wanted to give an update on my trip to the US.
I am writing this post on an.....iPhone X

In the US, I set notifications on istocknow.com and after checking it for a couple of days at 6am, the 256gb version was available. I reserved and paid for it in the morning (I also added the AppleCare), went to the store in the evening and picked it up! The sales guy confirmed that if I had any problems with phone in the UK, I just had to go to an Apple store and they would deal with phone accordingly, it would not make a difference that the phone was purchased from the US.

I set it up when I was back in the UK. There was no sim eject tool in the box. I used a paper clip and that did the job. Took the US T-Mobile sim out, and put my EE one in. Setup was fine, and phone works perfectly.

Happy days...thanks to all for being a part of this rollercoaster of a journey!!!

Congratulations! How much do you think you saved with the exchange rate around $1.33 and tourist rate around $1.28

Brilliant news. I’m glad you got your new iPhone and the help was useful. Interesting about the SIM tool. I always wondered why they’d think to remove it as there’s virtually no cost. Same with my iPhone 6S Plus.

I intend to do just that when i'm in San Francisco in November. I suppose my only worry is going to be the stock levels and availability of whatever the X/X plus is at the time. Hoping the shortfalls of manufacturing and supply chain doesn't have the same issues as last year (2017)... If so, then I'm pretty much screwed!

Months have gone by, there is plenty of stock. SIM free available and easy to find.

No... I mean this years model (2018).. The so called XPlus... but I'll be in SF on the 30th October and then again 12th Nov, so I have a fear what ever the model is officially called, stock will pretty scarce if there is a repeat of last years X supply chain mess.

Oooops sorry.

Lets hope Apple has plenty for all. Would love to replace my X with the X+!

I had my UK bought 7 replaced in the Barcelona Apple store (where I successfully argued EU law allowed me to claim after one year). In the UK we can use either the SoGA, EU consumer law or the new law that replaced SoGA for up to 6 years or something.

Anyway, while I was in there, a lad from the U.S. was in with a faulty Apple Watch. The ‘genius’ politely informed him that with his watch being purchased in the U.S. his warranty was only 1 year. So off he went with no help as his watch was older than 1 year.
