3G IPhone

I just can't see another IPhone (3G) coming out so soon after the first one. I can see a lot of pissed off people for sure. Why didn't Apple just wait and release a 3G phone if that's what they had planned all along? So if we want another faster 3G IPhone we will have to dish out another 500,600, or $700? Sounds like a racket to me.

For one, we got to use the phone for the last 9 months...I certainly am happy that I bought it early. And yes, new products come out. Welcome to technological innovation.

One issue i could see with this is that the current iPhone is offered with a two year contract, similar to how companies discount their phones if you get a contract. So it might end up where if you don't open a new line, that you would have to pay a lot more, like a few hundred more that is. Hope it is not like this, well i won't have a problem because i can't afford a new one, but it would mess some people up if Apple didn't work out this deal with AT&T.

the iphone is unsubsidied... or w/e.. anyways this means that anyone wanting an iphone pays 400 and the contract becomes 18 months, new customer, existing customer.. anyone. so a 3g iphone would be the same... pay for the phone and ur contract goes back to 18 months

nobodys getting screwed by phone companys or apple its just new tech.

but this is att idk how o2 or any of the euro guys go

There seems to be a varied range of ideas as to how the iPhone is activated and what happens when the SIM cards are swapped out with different ones.

Is there anyone here that can say what they had to do when their iPhone broke and had to be replaced, regarding iTunes activation and phone accounts to clear up what actually happens? Probably answered somewhere else but a link or something would be good :)

I have a feeling that a Macworld 3G iPhone announcement is a slight possibility, it wouldnt be anything big, phone looks the same, hidden camera on the front for video calls, maybe one or two new apps to take advantage.

They will have to make the announcement a while in advance due to the whole FCC thing so it makes Macworld a possibility??

Thats when we need to find out about whats happening with our contracts and get saving those pennies up!! :)

Have confirmation from O2 that your contract will not be extended and its a simple case of swapping the SIM out of the new iPhone to your old one then doing a "Lite Activation" which just activates the new iPhone with your existing contract.

Im happy, cant wait for it to be released!!!

How would O2 know this? I think they might of misunderstood you. That's how it works with the current iPhone, and say you have an 8GB and upgrade to a 16GB, your contract does not extend.

When the new 3G iPhone comes out, it's likely that you will need another 2 year contract.

Was speaking to a really well informed person at the iPhone O2 helpline. I know that is not proof but when you take everything into account it makes absolutely no sense that you should have to take out a new contract when data is data no matter how fast you are getting it.

Sorry to be bumping the thread but with only a few days to go I feel this is going to be an interesting issue.

So has anyone heard anything more on the issue. Anything been said to anyone??

I don't know if this is relevant, but I thought I would share the knowledge I have inferred from experience.

I had to replace my previous phone because it got lost. I wanted to just go through the "every 2 years you get an upgrade" but that was a long way off, so I decided to just buy an unlocked phone off of amazon. I got the phone, called them up with the IMEI number and the SIM number and I was good to go. My contract didn't change at all.

But this is probably all moot because of the differences in iPhone activation.
