Hi I am long at buying a used MacBook Pro 14 on eBay . Apart from battery count and general condition what other things should I be looking out for?

Any tips or things to check would be appreciated

Ok thanks but anything to look out for please? I will be inspecting before handing over the cash

If they have reset laptop back to factory, am I safe?

MDM is frequently used by organisations to control the SW & HW environment. Only the originator can revoke MDM. If the Mac is enrolled can very much limit prosonal use. Nor do hard resets, wiping the drive etc. remove MDM.

Not overly frequent, however some have been caught out and posted here for a solution to avail...

I see, is this when the MacBook has been used for work purposes?

Bring your own device policy? Surely if the MacBook has got a factory reset on it? That will be removed?

Ok, how do I find out if it’s tied to MDM or not?
Not exactly sure on the new Apple Silicon Mac's would expect admin profile to be in a company nor be able to delete etc. Some settings will be greyed out. Wont be able to reset or enter DFU mode. TBH too many variable as MDM is designed to be flexible to the needs of the organisation.

This Terminal command should reveal
Code:
profiles status -type enrolment
Expected result being no

Even if physically meeting I'd pay via service that provides cover in case of any issue. If seller insists on a cash deal think carefully...

MBP forum in isolation

At least your further enlightened, could be genuinely a good deal :)

MacBook Pro 14 inch 512gb, 16gb ram , about £1050-£1150.

Is it worth it??
Probably not.

Provide more detail regarding the box (which MBP specifically? Intel, M1, M2, etc.) if you are looking for more informed advice.

What was the original purchase date? Is it eligible to add an AC+ warranty. I had bought some MBP in the past, 10-12 month used ones for great deals. Just added an AC after purchasing. Didn’t have to worry much. Ask the seller serial number of the laptop.

they are generally 12 months ago. You can only add Aftercare within 60 days of original purchase though (so won't be able to add on at 10+ months old)

No. Macs you can add up to a year. And have 30 days to extend a device after AC expires. I have added AC 10-11 months after purchase.

Are you 100% sure? Can’t see this on the apple website? So it’s worth paying extra then for something that is less than 12 months

In the UK, looks like needs to be done within 60 days……

How to buy

  1. Purchase AppleCare+ with your new Mac.
  2. Or buy it within 60 days of your Mac purchase:
    • On your device (go to  > System Settings > General > About)
    • Online (requires you to verify your serial number)
    • At an Apple Store (inspection of Mac and proof of purchase are required)
    • By calling 0800 107 6285

Call Apple and ask, Apple may still offer after 60 days with an inspection.

How much extra depends on the deal. Personally I got better deals on Craigslist/FB marketplace than eBay.if you can get 40% off on less than a year used mac, I would do it in a heartbeat.
