What is the physical condition? Purchase date? Serial number. If you are buying for cash, meet them at an Apple Store.

Got a seller who wants to sell but it has a replaced screen and a battery count of less than 40? Best to avoid? It’s got 2 years of apple care warranty left

Do MacBook Pro overheat?
No, for the M1 MBP. Very hard to even make the fans come on (I have a 14").

Check all the ports are working. A failed port requires replacement of the entire logic board. (I know, because I had a failed HDMI port, but this is a rare failure). OK if under warranty or AppleCare

does anyone know if the MBP will connect to my Dell WD15 dock (which supplies power and connects my two monitors)

OP:

If you don't know that much about Macs, my advice to you is to NOT buy an MBP from ebay, regardless of how "attractive" the price seems.

You could do ok, but then again, chances are you will get burned.

I take it you're in the UK?
Do they have Apple online refurbished items there?
If so, THAT's where I'd buy from.
Then you KNOW what you're getting...

What happens if it’s got apple care warranty too ?

ok - is there anything else the seller can do after I have taken it.

i.e, still have access to the laptop remotely (assuming iCloud and MDM checks are done)
is this the place to check?

if the seller (who is first owner) does not have a receipt - would that be a cause for concern?

ok thank you. that's what I thought. They have refused to provide a receipt.

I'd walk away, no reason not to provide a digital receipt if purchased from Apple. Authorised retailer's may be different, but logically on such a new MBP you'd want to keep a record in the event of any issue with the retailer.

He/she has no reason not to disclose as only personal details on the receipt from Apple is name & email address which can easily be redacted as it in PDF format. The receipt is important with a Mac as in some circumstances Apple wont deal with you if you are unable to provide the original proof of purchase i.e. if the Mac is remotely locked via iCloud and the password forgotten (policy may have changed over time).

Buy an Apple-refurbished Mac from the online store.
That way, you KNOW what you're getting.
(and you get a 1-year warranty, too)

They don’t have any MBP 14 in at all
Apple will just a matter of time or keep searching the secondary market for a good used one. Have you considered a 16" wont be so much difference used...

Personally I prefer the 13" MBP as I want the portability, extensive battery life with active cooling. Dont like it's limited ports and the Touchbar as was DOA. 15" Air is interesting, but passive cooling has it's limitations and I feel the old 13" MBP's chassis stronger than the Air and can take a beating.

How can I check if it’s stolen or not? Is there anyway of checking?
