OSX has writing to PDF's built in. After scanning (with
whatever scan software your scanner came with),
go file>print (like you are going to print a hard copy).

In the print dialog box there is an option to "Save as PDF".
This will save to PDF instead of sending to a printer.

You can try this on a webpage to see how easy it is to
save to PDF...

Just got my 20" iMac in the mail yesterday (to tide me over until the new Mac Pros come out) and it has reaffirmed my belief that refurbs are a hell of a deal. The screen is perfect (there is a bit of screen gradiation, but it's not noticeable unless you're looking for it)...no dead pixels or problems with the edge of the screen. I loaded Leopard and installed 4 gigs of RAM with no problem (though for some reason I had trouble with the tiny little screw on the RAM compartment...had to whip out the trusty Swiss Army Knife, as my two other screwdrivers wouldn't work).

All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase, as I spent about $1400 in total for a 20" 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac with Leopard, 4 gigs of RAM, and a wee-little photo printer (free after rebate).

So yeah. Anyone who is concerned about the iMac, grab a refurb. They have to check it over before they send it out, so I would imagine my experience is a common one.

GUYS THANK YOU..... I have been playing with this sweet machine for over 3 days now... No Freezing, no Dead Pixels, no sound at all... Mac OS is very intuitive, I was using Itunes in Windows, so I was used to the features there and there is a great similarity with the Browser....

Now in regards to the PDF issues... What I need is to scan hard copy documents and Convert them to PDF.... In my previous windows machine I had the full ADOBE acrobat version, so I just selected import-->From Fax and the document was scanned and presented as a pdf, that i was able to manipulate, crop, change the order of pages etc...

How can I do this in this computer?

EDIT= NO COLOR GRADIENT HERE! sorry for the caps.... I am no photographer or anything like that, this screen is just as good as any i have had before...

What scanner are you using? I have a Canon ide 50 and the driver scans the document and automatically turns it into a PDF.

We have been trying to explain it to you that the Mac is independent of using Adobe's crap. Windows is dependent on stuff like that.

It doesn't matter what type of document you have you can save it to PDF.
For example, if your scanner scans the document to the desktop and it's a TIFF file then just double click it and Preview will open it and you can "Save As" PDF.
If it's Excel Spreadsheet just hit File and Print and you will see a PDF button on the bottom left of the printer driver and you can "Save as PDF".

If you want to make your Mac more like Windows (adding unnecessary steps) then download Adobe.
