What's wrong with iOS 7? Is it too modern?

Where are the following in iOS7 and the current iDevices?

- Qi charging,
- true slow-mo videos (not the standard-definition, 640*360 120p joke the 5s has - the Samsung Note 3 and the LG G2 both have true 1920*1080 60p and the Sammy has true 1280*720 120p)
- 4K video recording (as in the Samsung Note 3),
- stereo audio recording (also in videos),
- wider-angle lens (particularly in video),
- Xenon flash,
- OIS,
- USB OTG,
- memory card slot,
- full, standardized Bluetooth support incl. OBEX file transfer,
- windowed OS on iPads (as on everything with a pen on Samsungs),
- truly stereo speakers on iPads,
- f.lux (possible even on non-rooted Android devices)
- decent, high-quality HDMI output via SlimPort (not the Lightning lagging and lower-quality joke),
- Wacom support etc.

These are painfully missing from current iDevices (and iOS7), while they're all implemented by Android / WP devices. (Not all of them in a single device, of course. For example, the cheap Nexus 7 2013 "only" has Qi, truly stereo speakers, full Bluetooth support, f.lux-alikes, USB OTG and decent, high-quality HDMI output via SlimPort of the list. Still, it'd be GREAT to have any / all of them the at least 80% more expensive iPads / iPad Mini Retinas.)

BTW, Android is a great platform if you want to get malware

If you don't install everything you run into and/or don't root your device, you're perfectly safe. I only use few apps on my non-rooted Nexus 7.2 and have never encountered any malware problem.

confusion

Android confusing? IMHO it's pretty logical. Of course, it'll be harder for somebody without any tech knowledge - but that's a fair price for being far more sophisticated and having far more esssential features (see e.g. the list at the top).

My reasons really have nothing to do with the validity of such a large device or my desire to use a stylus.

I simply would like to try out this experience on a device and OS that doesn't suck (in this case, I'm referring to Samsung's crappy feaux leather and TouchWiz).

I need an iOS device that is JUST different enough from my regular iPhone to warrant using both side-by-side. I considered a 5C because the design is different and I really do love the feel and design of the plastic. But ultimately, its the same phone as my 5S (experience-wise).

Until Apple branches out a bit, I'll likely just stick to one Android (Nexus), one iPhone and upgrades as often as I can swing em.

Bigger iPhone would help out a lot, iphone is wayyy too narrow.

I can look past a lot but the size is unacceptable.

The Z10 at 4.2 inches is much better because it's wider.

The iPhone is a normal width for a device with a 4" display and 16:9 aspect ratio.

Only reason the Z10 is wider is because the display is slightly larger.

I just sent my Moto X back and am back with iPhone.

There is a lot to like with the Moto X (and Kit Kat), and many of Google's features are far more advanced than ios (Google Now, touchless controls).

However IMO, the camera is currently not in the same league as the iPhone camera in terms of picture quality, features and especially speed. The camera was too important for me.

So if the x had a better camera you'd keep it?

I like the iPhone camera but it's not gonna replace something like a dslr.

My extremely old canon 150 dollar camera takes better pics than my iPhone 5.

I returned the moto x as well and the camera was a big factor. Obviously no one is trying to replace a DSLR with a camera phone, but the difference between the 5s camera and x camera is massive. The only thing the x does good is outdoor daylight shots.....everything else is full of noise and atrocious.

Yes, I likely would have kept it. There are things I think the iPhone does better, other than the camera, ie I definitely prefer the iPhone email layout and I think that iPhone handles lock screen notifications much, much better, but I really liked the customization, touchless controls, always listening, Google Now and screen size of the Moto X.

I don't want to lug around a dslr so I need a phone camera that is very good. The one on the Moto X is improving (I think many of the issues are purely software), but it still isn't close.

Yeah, that's happened before with my nexus 7. I think it would be considered malware since it's adware. Someone said they got rid of apps with air push ads though. I can't believe that **** was allowed in the Play Store anyway.

Apps can send notifications to the notification bar. For instance, when you receive an email, the email app send a notification to the notification bar.

Some app developers got creative and started using the notification bar for ads. This caused a major outrage from many Android users. When I found out an app I used did this, I promptly uninstalled the app and complained to the developer. This particular developer updated the app to take out that feature. After that, I put the app back on.

The main reason there was so much outrage is that you don't know which app is popping up the ads. There is no indication which app it was. It made it difficult for people to know what was happening. The app developers popped ads not when the app was being used, but when it wasn't. You would be texting someone and the ad would appear even though it has been days since you used the app that popped the ads.

Eventually, people figured out which apps were doing this. There was even an app that identifies which apps used Air Push to pop ads on your notification bar. I imagine those developers and Google got a lot of grief from these ads. I gave one developer some grief and he changed the way ads are shown on his app.

Eventually, Google banned ads in the notification bar. They made the announcement I think early this year. If you still have an old version of one of these apps, it will probably still be showing ads. I haven't seen apps that did this in quite a while.

The one thing I miss from the iPhone is the ability to send texts containing gifs.

not really sure if its in the malware category, but I have downloaded a few apps in the past that spam my device with ads in my notifications area.

you would never see this on IOS.

Are you serious? If an iOS app is using notification center and isn't some sort of productivity/navigation/social networking app, you better believe the notifications it's going to send you are going to be spam. "Get 50000000 coins free!" "Let's go play another game of Angry Birds 9! You haven't played for 4 hours!" etc.

Its not the same from what I have come across, those are usually game related spam.

nothing that would automatically download to my device either (yes I have had this actually happen)

you really screwed it up with ios 7. Moto X shipping soon.

The only seriously objectionable issue I have with iOS 7 is the inability to reply to an email and attach a document (that is not a photo or video). I don't have to do this often, but it's really annoying when I have to.

The iOS keyboard still sucks, but it's usable in a mediocre sort of way.

And why is not the same? Both put ads on the notification area

Also, not to detract from the big problem that is Android's notification spam but recent versions of Android allow you to see exactly what app is spamming you right from the notification shade (and probably block them from sending notifications via some sort of 3rd party tweak)

One of the most annoying things about the spam is that previously it was difficult (for the average user) to determine exactly which app 'betrayed your trust'. iOS associates notifications with the app's name, so problem solved.

Still, both operating systems spam you - this is because notifications in general have a pretty narrow use-case:
1) Alert you in about something you're tracking: for example, the location of a shipped package or an RSS news story
2) Inform you that you have been contacted on a social app like Whatsapp or Facebook
3) Try to keep you in sync with an app's state while it's running in the background: for example, tell you what song is currently playing or what is the next turn you should be doing to reach your destination in a navigation app.
4) Spam your ass

Unsurprisingly, a lot of apps go with option 4.
