I bet that email address is being flooded with complaints right now from people wanting a free 17"!

It's not free when you've spent 20+ hours visiting the genius bar, waiting for repair boxes, sending them off, being without a computer, stressing over whether you have a lemon or not etc....

maybe three MBP 17s would make up for it....

Oh, my comment wasn't directed towards the original poster. He is more than justified to get a whole slew of Apple products after what he went through. I just meant other people who've experienced minimal to no problems who merely see this as a chance to acquire a new laptop for no reason.

Dang, I better keep his email in mind if my upcoming purchase has any problems.. even though it'll be my first my still haha. Knock on wood I don't have any problems though. Congratulations nonetheless!

Yeah my buddy got a free iPod nano from a similar story, I don't think he talked to uncle steve, but he did get a call from Apple's creative director after Steve had seen his portfolio/website.

Although I doubt everyone who e-mail's Steve gets a response like this, it's not a completely rare story. Apple is still a company run by people.

She!! I am a woman :)

Hey cybergypsy,

That's a pretty cool story. I'm just wondering what prompted you to send a message to SJ now? I mean I've known about your mac problems for quite a while!

I was reading a thread here, and thought i would give it a shot..... they (Apple) looked at my buying habits, I buy a new mac every 6 to 8 months.....so thought i would give it a try..... worked out well, i was going to break down and buy one when the Led came out :)

Dear Steve,
My PowerBook is getting a bit long in the tooth, I think I deserve a loaded 15" MacBook Pro for my trouble.
Thanks, CF.

P.S. My parents still use a G3 iMac, let's see if we can fix that, hmm?

:D

Great News!!! I hope I never have a problem with my macs. But, since you were so patient and dedicated, you were shown the respect you deserved.

P.S. Its good to know that not all MR members are pale young guys like me!!!

I'm guessing you haven't gotten to the part where they make you sign an agreement agreeing to keep your mouth shut about the whole thing yet. ;)

There were absolutely no strings attached to their offer to me. In fact, they kept thanking me for bring the problems to their attention...though this was last year and little has been done about them despite many complaints. Maybe the new LED displays will fix the display issue at least.

*shrug*

I've had two replacement machines and I had to sign an agreement before I got my new machines.

that's awesome dude. maybe it's a Santa Rosa 17" with the LED display!! and a Quad core proccessor in it! Fully loaded with 4 GB of ram and a 200 GB HD!

Now that'd be a special laptop.

Congrats cybergypsy...that's great news.

Dear Steve,

I really want a Mac at home because I despise Windows now after using a G5 at work every day for the last 2 years. However, I'm too broke. Any way I can send you my XP PC and let you run over it with a steam roller in exchange for a iMac or Mac Pro (and I will accept a refurb)? :D

Newfound Mac fan for life,
zero2dash :)
