So I was just about to take a walk into town and listen to some music along the way.

Plugging my headphones into my jack (whilst I still can) I've looked outside and noticed it is raining hard.

I don't like removing my phone from my pocket when it's tipping down, so it reminded me of a feature on I've been wanting for a long time,

Caller Announce

Rather than having to take my phone out of my pocket each time someone rings to check who's calling, I'd much rather have the iPhone announce it to me over my earphones and perhaps even give me the option to say yes to answer, ignore to leave ringing or voicemail to divert.

I know Apple monitor these forums, so hopefully they will read this and introduce it through the Beta in time for iOS 10.

In addition, I'm sure developers are continuing to ask for this feature.

My Plantronics headset does this. I imagine others do as well. Maybe this could be the solution?

It's great that your headset does this, but I'm looking for a solution that works for everybody baked into iOS 10 and beyond.

Caller Announce

Rather than having to take my phone out of my pocket each time someone rings to check who's calling, I'd much rather have the iPhone announce it to me over my earphones and perhaps even give me the option to say yes to answer, ignore to leave ringing or voicemail to divert.

So it appears they implemented Siri Caller Announce and about time too!

:)

Haven't seen it in action yet, so I don't know whether it's gone as far as to include the answering / divert options I suggested as emboldened above?

EDIT: Added name of feature for search purposes.

Does the Announce Calls feature work for anyone using the GM?

If so, what setting do you have set to? Is the phone in silent/vibrate mode or just regular ringer mode when it works? Does the announcement come trough headphones/Bluetooth/phone itself (or a some combination of those)?

Works fine on gm over Bluetooth and headphones
I have it set to that as well but didn't get anything extra when a call came in while I had headphones plugged in, just the usual ringtone and that's it. What are you getting exactly when a call comes in?

So it looks like it works when the phone is set to silent/vibrate (it basically says the caller's name as entred in contacts shortly after the ringtone plays through the headphones), but it doesn't seem to work if the phone is not on silent/vibrate for some reason, at least not for me.

I never turn the ringer on so I couldn't comment on that lol

Kind of strange that that would play a role even, especially since it's not really mentioned anywhere.

Perhaps if you might get a chance to do a quick test with the ringer on to see if you are seeing the same thing (just to make sure it's not just me), that would be great.

Announce call, is this a new feature in the GM build? If so where can I find it?

If not, you can make a custom siri sound wav file using terminal.app and assign it as a ring tone for that contact.

Thanks, I never even heard of this feature until now. and I've been using iOS 10 since the 1st beta... is this a feature only in GM, and was it ever announced?

Wow, that's awesome... didn't even know about this.
[doublepost=1473410143][/doublepost]Will this also work for Facetime calls as well?

Works for me even when not on silent.

Ringtone starts playing then after a second or 2 Siri announces the name of whoever it is calling.
Interesting. So the name will come through the headphones for you (or over Bluetooth) while the phone itself is still playing the ringtone, or does the phone itself also announce the name (in addition to headphones/Bluetooth)?

I have limited testing at this point but in the car, setting on Bluetooth and Headphones, I hear my phone and car ring...phone says the name from the iPhone speaker...car and phone continue to ring. If you miss the name the one time it says it you will not hear it again. I had my phone in my pocket so if I were not listening for it to happen I would have missed the name. I will test more of course but this is what I found yesterday.

Thanks for the info. I haven't tried it with Bluetooth and just headphones, in case that might be different (although it doesn't seem like it should be). I definitely got the name announced once in the beginning through the headphones when the phone was on silent/vibrate, but nothing over the headphones or the phone itself (aside from just the ringing) when the phone wasn't on silent/vibrate.
