It's been a disaster for me since I got on the 4th or 5th iOS 11.0 beta.

A chunk of maybe 500 photos from 2007-2012 got lumped into one and were showing as the most recent photos in camera roll. I restored multiple times but they would not go back to chronological order.
I then thought uploading to iCloud would solve this but no. I ended up having to back these 500 photos up on my Mac and delete them from iCloud completely.

Sometimes a hard reset would cause all photos to disappear and I have to wait like 30 mins for them to reappear while the app "restores" them.

Well, alrighty then. Looks like I know what I'll be doing tomorrow. Thanks for your input. I'll post results when I have them. I'll never think about Sept 2014 in quite the same way again.

Results are in: Restored iPhone 8 Plus using same encrypted iPhone 6s Plus iTunes backup that was initially used to set up new iPhone 8 Plus. Didn't wipe iPhone 8 Plus before restoring. Prior to restoring, I used Photo Transfer app to send all photos taken with new iPhone 8 Plus in week after setup (10/16 - 10/26, Thurs) to iPhone 6s Plus for interim safekeeping. Restoration went off without a hitch and took about an hour. This morning I transferred the 10/16 - 10/26 photos back from the iPhone 6s Plus using the same Photo Transfer app (works over your own wifi, device to device).

Entire Camera Roll is 100% filed chronologically by dates photos were taken and 2014 is intact in the middle of the roll, right where it should be. *happy dance with jazz hands* :D

I will add that I was extremely fortunate that the jumble happened so soon after setting up the new iPhone. There was very little mess to clean up or data to finagle. I have no plans to EVER reset this iPhone. Results are no longer as predictable as they were even a year ago and a simple reset is not simple anymore. Maybe this will help someone else.

I just updated to iOS 11.2.6 on my iPhone 7 Plus and have this issue too. Apple is starting to seriously piss me off! Seems their hardware, their software...it just works, doesn't apply anymore.

Yea, I'll just keep recommending the duplicate and delete trick I outlined in this thread. The link above this post did not work for me at all back when I had this issue. I have since switched phones to the iPhone X since I fixed it and the issue has not resurfaced at all.

Sorry to hear that, I posted the fix on the Apple forums and have gotten a LOT of responses saying it's working for others :/

I have way too many pics to go through one by one and duplicate them.

I've looked at your fix and it's too complicated for me.

But how do I get them in the order that they were taken?

When mine got reorganized. They were still Chronological in that the top of the roll now started at 2014 - Current, then after the most recent photo, were my oldest photos from 2008 - 2014. So I would start duplicating the top section of 2014-Current which would move the duplicate versions to the end of the camera roll and then delete the versions at the top of the camera roll.
