Hopefully Apple will offer the option to turn this off.
Surely it will shorten battery life, and for people that sleep with their phone on by the bed at night it could prove annoying. OK. One could lay it face down.
Obviously it will function very similar to the Apple Watch. 🙄

I think there is a significant difference in an AOS, if it is backlit, like the Apple Watch or on a light reflective Screen (e.g. e-ink). I do not want to turn of always on on my watch and my phone, when I go to bed or to the cinema.

I enjoy always on display and to be able to glance at the time and welcome it on a phone even though it's also on my Apple Watch. be interesting if apples version gives you latest texts and notifications like on android or not.

We are moving away from notifications that buzz & light up your phone screen all the time, to dynamically updating widgets that you can catch up with at a glance

So that’s why I’m interested in it.

or leave it in another room like I often do. If I sleep with it next to me it's because I need it as an alarm clock, in which case I put it in airplane mode.

Always on? Just one question; why?

It looks like iPhone 14 will finally have Always On Display. But can someone explain why is it useful?

I have my phone in my pocket most of the day when I’m out. I won’t see the screen.

I have phone in a charging dock away from me when I’m home. I won’t see it.

I have my phone in front of my face when I am using it. I won’t need always On.

I love the AOD on my watch because I can tell time without turning my wrist.

But why is it good for a phone?
Maybe it makes your phone hotter since its always on maybe people have a desire to feel warmth?

Two words: Flip Phone

Meh.. couldn’t care less but will buy it anyway since my X is already 5 years old.

I even don't like it that much on the watch - imho it looks better without it, i don't want people to see my calendar widget (but I do want to see it) and I've met people who were awed at the watch sensing the wrist turn and turning on.

Otoh you can always turn it off - but I'd rather have a cheaper iphone than that constant feature creep to justify the inflated prices.

It annoys me slightly on my watch because it often doesn’t ‘wake’ when I want it too

Bc then its always their begging you to look at it and distract you from your life even more

I want always on display b/c I do home dialysis and will find great utility in this feature; i don’t have to touch my phone w/my gloves and risk contamination. Voice control for homepods and echo show. So yeah, the more information I can access and a greater degree of hands free control I have over my devices - the better 🇨🇦

When I tried a Google Pixel, I tried it the AOD, did not like it. I got confused a few times if the screen was actually off. Personally, I don’t care for it. If I upgrade my iPhone, I doubt I will use it and will just turn it off. If it s a feature, it won’t be a selling point for me.

I’ll give it a go and see if I like/use it - keep it turned on if I do, turn it off if I don’t.

I can’t say I’m ’excited’ about AOD and would upgrade if it isn’t included - there will be plenty of other improvements over my iPhone 11.

It’s a android thing , don’t want it hopefully can turn it off, if I want that rubbish I would buy a Samsung (not)
This is just apple trying win over android fans as they think we are missing out lol

Currently a new iPhone has tap-to-wake and raise-to-wake enabled by default, and the screen comes on full when a notification arrives that's displayed on the lock screen. It will be interesting to see if any of those behaviors are modified in the presence of AOD, as right now it seems like the only time you'd be seeing the AOD would be with the phone docked or lying down.

Fun fact: tap-to-wake is in Accessibility while raise-to-wake is in Display/Brightness. Gah.
